Tarrytown Tree Commission Annual Report: Martin Hauser, Chair of the Tarrytown Tree Commission, delivered a report to the Board of Trustees on the Committee's 2024 activities. The Tree Commission is responsible for stewardship and preservation of the Village tree canopy by providing guidance on residential, commercial, and municipal plans that impact trees and related plantings, as well educating residents abut the value that trees provide to the community. In addition to shade and beautification benefits, trees can slow down traffic when planted along roadways, increase property values, and reduce energy costs. The Tree Commission has included helpful guidance on best practices for tree care and planting on their website, and in the new year hopes to assist with better guidance for new residents who may not know about the tree permit process in Tarrytown. The Tree Commission assists with planting recommendations on public spaces every year, and invites Village residents to submit suggestions for locations on public property that could use a new tree: administrator@tarrytownny.gov.

Lagana Park Survey added as amendment to Parks and Recreation section of the Zoning Code: The Village was awarded a grant by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to improve the facilities at Lagana Park. As part of this project, the Village was required to better define the designated parkland areas. In 1971 the Village Trustees designated multiple parkland areas in the Village including the "Lagana Field Area." The Field Areas were distinct from the former Pennybridge School building which has been leased to the Elizabeth Mascia Childcare Center since 1985. Designated parkland must be fully accessible to the public.
The completed survey of Lagana Park was adopted by the Board on January 6th and has been included as an amendment to the Zoning Code chapter on Parks and Recreation Areas.
The designers for the Lagana Park renovations will be PS & S, and will begin work this quarter on the plan for the park. The Village will be seeking additional public feedback on the designs, so please watch for requests for feedback on this exciting project for 2025.
