CRYSTAL CRAIG RECEIVES LEADERSHIP AWARD FROM COMPASS

Congratulations to Crystal Craig, Director of Transportation, for receiving a 2024 Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) Leadership in Motion award in the Leadership in Practice, Professional category. She received the award at the annual COMPASS/Valley Regional Transit Board of Directors’ holiday luncheon on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the Nampa Civic Center.

Crystal manages four city transportation divisions—Street, Traffic, Fleet Services, and the Municipal Airport, ensuring that Nampa is equipped to handle future growth while maintaining fiscal responsibility. Her leadership has not only advanced Nampa's transportation agenda but has also fostered a collaborative spirit within the Treasure Valley -- her nomination received letters of support from several local jurisdictions.

Thank you, Crystal, for exemplifying outstanding leadership, commitment, and innovation in advancing local and regional transportation initiatives and collaboration. Congratulations!

ITD will begin construction in January to widen State Highway 55 from Farmway Road to Middleton Road

This project will:

  • Widen SH-55 to four lanes with dedicated left and right turn lanes at major intersections, including wider shoulders.
  • Install a raised median from 10th Avenue to Middleton Road that will restrict access at unsignalized intersections every half mile. Drivers will only be able to turn right or left onto side streets. They will not be able to make left turns from side streets onto the highway.
  • Add a separated bicycle and pedestrian pathway on the north and south sides of SH-55 and a pedestrian undercrossing east of 10th Avenue near Vallivue Middle School.
  • Upgrade signal equipment at major intersections.
  • Build soundwalls at Crestwood Estates, Fieldcrest Village and Lakeview Apartments.
  • Pave a frontage road west of 10th Avenue on the north side of the highway.

This project is part of a multi-year effort to study and improve the SH-55 corridor throughout the state with Leading Idaho funds. These funds are a deliberate investment to allow ITD to accelerate project timelines to address rapid growth and build critical infrastructure today that would otherwise take many years to build.
