It's Not About The Religion,

It's About The Relationship!

See you this Sunday!

THE MID-WEEK BUZZ

Blessed Are You…

What a great Sunday we had this week sending off pastor Greg to his sabbatical rest and restoration. He gave us a great reminder of the journey God has had our church on these past 7 years and how we don’t really want to take this journey without God’s presence with us, or without recognizing the ways God is always with us and working among us.

When I was the director of a campus ministry at San Diego State, at first, I always had a lot of worries leaving for a conference or taking a vacation, wondering how things would function without Kendra and me. Funny thing though, every time we did go away, we got amazing reports of how great the service was or something great God did. We started to realize that things often went better when we weren’t there! I think this was for two reasons. First, God is always in control anyway and God’s presence is really what makes something special, not my presence. Second, God’s presence most resides in the people of God gathered together and when we were gone, there was a special way our students and staff came together to make things happen that seemed to elevate the communal experience of worship and learning.

We are blessed to have pastor Greg, but we are equally blessed by the presence of each amazing person that brings who they are to our worship each Sunday. I believe as we pull together we will be doubly blessed and will look back on this summer and say “look what the Lord has done.” This Sunday we’ll be starting our journey into the Sermon on the Mount with the beatitudes, learning what it means to be blessed and that Jesus kind of turns our expectations of who is blessed upside down. May you meditate on how you are blessed this week, but see the blessing of God in those around you, as well.

The Outreach Ministry!

Since 2013, Give OUT Day has helped hundreds of LGBTQ nonprofits raise millions of dollars! This year, Give OUT Day is June 4. Organizations will be fundraising throughout Pride Month (June).

In recognition of Give OUT Day, please consider donating to PFLAG San Diego County. They offer support, education, and advocacy to LGBTQ+ persons, their families, friends and allies. PFLAG envisions a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

Dear Church Family,

Thank you for your continued support of our blood drives and for helping save lives through your compassion for life. Your willingness to give has made a meaningful difference in our community and beyond.

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming American Red Cross blood drive, held in honor of Pride Month as the Community Church of Poway’s Pride Drive. This drive is a celebration of inclusion, care, and the power of coming together to support one another, especially in support of our LGBTQ community.

We also want to share an important update: blood donation guidelines have changed, allowing many people in the LGBTQ community to now be eligible to give blood under updated, more inclusive policies. This change reflects important progress toward a more equitable donation process while continuing to maintain the safety of the blood supply.

We encourage everyone to consider donating and helping spread the word. Please consider signing up to donate, and invite a friend, family member, or co-worker to join you. Every donation can help save lives.

First time donor? Need some additional information or help with registrations? Please contact Susan Gurriell sgurriell@gmail.com.

Thank you again for being such a caring and supportive community.

Together, we can make a difference in another’s life. Here is a list of the items we are requesting:

  • Peanut butter (small jars preferred)
  • Jelly (small jars preferred)
  • Chips (single serve)
  • Soft granola bars or fig bars
  • Fruit snacks
  • Bottled water (single serve)

Day of packing (July 5th)

On July 5, we will have a “Do Church” to put the sack lunches together for our neighbors in need. During church, we will make 100 peanut and jelly sandwiches and after church we will pack 100 sack lunches with all the goodies.
