Help Drive Care Forward

A Kawartha Lakes family wanted to keep home.

When Samantha and Holly Burke’s mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at just 60 years old, their family became caregivers overnight.

When Mom needed a wheelchair, getting to appointments was no longer simple. That's when Community Care stepped in.

"The drivers are extraordinary people. They treat Mom with patience and make what could be a stressful day feel calm and kind."

For people living with mobility challenges, transportation is more than getting from one place to another, it's a lifeline. Community Care Transportation Services allow neighbours to get to a medical appointment, a store to run errands, a restaurant to celebrate milestones with family and participate in social programs like our Diner's Club and Adult Day Programs. Our vans help families like the Burke’s access care, connection, and independence.

Community Support Spotlights

Royal Bank of Canada - Lindsay Branch

In June RBC donated $1,500 to our Hike for Hospice through RBC Communities Together.

Their staff volunteered their time as Hike Marshals, helping ensure the event ran smoothly while cheering on participants along the route.

Their gift of time and financial resources will make a meaningful difference for Hospice Services and the individuals they serve.

Thank you RBC, for building a stronger & caring community.

Kawartha Financial Services

We are honoured to receive $2,000 through the Community Involvement Program.

For the past 9 years, Kawartha Financial Services has stood alongside us; that is nearly a decade of generosity that has helped strengthen compassionate care.

This year’s donation will provide subsidies for programs with fees, ensuring cost does not become a barrier to accessing support.

Thank you to Teri Ingram for presenting this gift to Foundation staff member Cindy Williams.

Omemee Swans

We are incredibly grateful to the Omemee Swans for once again choosing Community Care as one of the recipients of their generous Season of Giving campaign.

Their thoughtful donation of $1,000 will help support programs and services that keep people in our community healthy, independent, and connected.

Thank you to every member of the Omemee Swans for your kindness, commitment, and ongoing partnership.

Woodville Lions Club

In April, Foundation staff attended a Woodville Lions Club meeting to express our gratitude for nearly 20 years of faithful support.

We shared about the services we offer today and highlighted the impact on Woodville residents. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect and enjoy a meal together.

We sincerely thank the Woodville Lions Club for everything they do.

Community Connections and Highlights

We were proud to unveil our new Donor Wall at the Community Health Centre on June 17th, 2026. A lasting tribute to the incredible generosity of those who have contributed $25,000 or more in support of Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes.

This permanent display is more than a recognition piece. It is a reflection of the compassion, commitment, and community spirit that make our work possible. We are deeply grateful to every donor whose generosity continues to strengthen the health and well being of our community.

Our Donor Wall was designed and brought to life through a collaboration with a local LCVI high school teacher, Joe Tamlin, and student, Miles M. Their creativity and craftsmanship transformed this vision into something truly meaningful, allowing us to celebrate our donors while supporting local talent.

Why I Give - A Story of Generosity

When Sharon's husband Roy was battling cancer and Alzheimer's disease, getting him to medical appointments became one of their biggest challenges. When he needed radiation treatments at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Sharon was unable to drive in the dark for the early morning appointments.

Community Care arranged a volunteer driver and wheelchair-accessible van to take them to treatment, providing not only transportation but peace of mind during an incredibly difficult time. After Roy's passing, Sharon wanted to give back to the organization that had supported them when they needed it most. She became both a volunteer and a member of Community Care's Luminary Circle monthly giving program.

Over the next 15 years, Sharon volunteered with programs including the Adult Day Program and Meals on Wheels, and actively particpates in our Luminary Circle (monthly giving program) to ensure others can access the same compassionate care that brought comfort to her family. Sharon's journey from client to volunteer to monthly donor is a powerful reminder of how kindness comes full circle, helping ensure Community Care can be there for the next person who needs it.
