June 27, 2025

Reminder: In the summer months, the Board holds fewer public meetings. The next Board Work Session will be on Wednesday July 16, and the next regular meeting will be on Monday, July 21. The Tarrytown Link will be issued less frequently as a result, but periodic updates will be posted on an as-needed basis.

July 4th Festivities at the Waterfront

On Friday, July 4, the Village will once again host fireworks and other activities at Pierson Park this year in collaboration with the Village of Sleepy Hollow. Food Trucks, Face Painting, Bounce Houses and Live Music from Kickstart Charlie will once again contribute to a fun celebration. The fireworks will launch from a barge in the Hudson situated between the two Villages. The food trucks will set up at 5pm and other activities will kick off at 6pm. The fireworks will launch after dark.

A few logistical notes to make for a smooth event:

  1. If you live locally, please try to avoid parking on the west side of the train tracks. Your exit will be smoother and faster if you do not need to cross the H-Bridge after the event.
  2. If you are coming from outside Tarrytown, take the train. The park is an easy walk from the Metro North station.
  3. The H-Bridge will close at approximately 6:30pm when the parking lots on the west side are full, and will not re-open again until after the pedestrian traffic has cleared following the fireworks display.

In addition to the food trucks, consider grabbing a picnic from one of our local businesses as part of the Chamber's Downtown Eats, Riverfront Beats series. The following businesses have created Grab-and-Go picnic boxes for July 4th and other Thursday and Friday concerts at the waterfront throughout the summer.

Two New Committees - Looking for Volunteers!

The Board established two new committees at the June 16 Board meeting. Please consider signing up to participate. You can submit a volunteer application online, or if you do not have access to the online form, you can send us your resume and a letter explaining your interest in the Committee and what you think you can contribute.

Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan Committee

The Village will be updating and finalizing its Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan thanks to a grant from New York's Department of State. The last draft of the Plan dates to 2015, and much has changed on the waterfront since then. Updating the Plan will involve soliciting community input on the vision for the waterfront's future, as well as developing a Harbor Management Plan among other new requirements. The Village is looking for a diverse group of volunteers interested in what happens on the waterfront from various perspectives, including those with planning and land use experience. The volunteer committee members will be working with a consultant who will help the Village develop the plan. That consultant has not yet been identified, but the Village expects to launch the process later this year.

Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee

To help celebrate and promote cultural awareness and appreciation of the Village's diverse residents through the planning and organization of events and initiatives the Board established a Cultural Heritage Recognition Committee. The committee will be charged with working with Trustees, the Recreation Department and other local organizations to identify opportunities to celebrate a wide array of cultures and groups that populate the Village of Tarrytown. Any and all members of the community are welcome to apply to participate in the Committee. The Village is seeking a wide range of voices representing the colorful quilt of this community.

Please click the link below to complete the volunteer application or send your resume and cover letter to the attention of the Village Clerk: kgilligan@tarrytownny.gov.

Public Notice: Water Department Collection of Data

The Department of Public Works is in the process of updating our water valve inventory in the Right-of-Way serving private properties.

To accurately locate these curb valves, DPW employees will need to photograph the frontage of properties using landmarks such as the building footprint in order to triangulate the precise location.

These curb valve boxes are Village-owned and operated and delineate service connections between the Village and private property owners.

Updating our records will assure an accurate location of these valves in order to gain immediate access in case of emergencies, future work and/or repairs to the municipal water system affecting private properties.

This message is to advise you of DPW employees photographing your property. They will be wearing DPW apparel and will be in a Village of Tarrytown vehicle. We will avoid any intrusion and respect the privacy of residents.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience and apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Village of Tarrytown Department of Public Works:

Lou Martirano, Superintendent of Public Works

Village of Tarrytown, New York 10591

Many thanks to the dedication of our volunteer members for all they do to maintain a highly skilled department.

New School Hours to Begin in September

Washington Irving Bleachers Project to Begin this Summer

From Superintendent Ray Sanchez:

On or about June 30, the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns will be starting a summer construction project on our grounds. As part of this work, the removal of the concrete bleachers will take place between June 30 and August 8, with working hours between 8:30am and 4pm. We want to make you aware that this phase of the project will likely be noisy at times due to the nature of the demolition work.

We sincerely apologize for any disruption this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding. Please know that every effort will be made to minimize the impact during this temporary disruption.

DEC Announces 2025 First-time Camper Program

Popular Free Program Returns for 7th Year to Help More New Yorkers Experience the Outdoors through Camping

Interested Campers Encouraged to Enter Lottery by July 3

Through the First-Time Camper Program, New Yorkers who have never experienced camping have the opportunity to try camping and other recreational activities in the great outdoors by registering for a fully stocked campsite at a select DEC-operated campground for a designated weekend this summer.

Long-time campers know the enjoyment and rewards of camping, but for those who have never slept in a tent before, spending the night outdoors can be an unfamiliar and challenging adventure. New York State’s First-Time Camper Program makes trying camping for the first time easy, by providing a turnkey camping experience for participants, especially those from underserved communities who have never camped before.

Participating campers will be provided with a tent for their camping party, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, camp chairs, a lantern, and even firewood. A Camping Ambassador will meet participants at the campsite and help them get their camp set up with a camping 101 lesson. Bathrooms and hot showers are a short walk from the campsites. To make the weekend getaway even more enjoyable, campers will have an opportunity to learn from experts how to fish, hike, bird watch, paddle, and more, all while having fun and making memories that last forever.

The public may enter the First-Time Camper lottery until July 3. Those entering the lottery must choose one facility from the participating locations in the Adirondacks and Catskills:

Luzerne Campground (Adirondacks) – July 11-13

Mongaup Pond Campground (Catskills) – July 18-20

Cranberry Lake Campground (Adirondacks) – July 25-27

Kenneth L. Wilson Campground (Catskills) – August 1-3

North South Lake Campground (Catskills) – August 8-10

Meacham Lake Campground (Adirondacks) – August 15-17

Northampton Beach Campground (Adirondacks) – August 22-24

Participants will be randomly selected to fill camper slots. More information about the First-Time Camper Program can be found on the DEC website.

For more information on DEC-operated campgrounds, including a list of campgrounds and schedules, visit DEC's website or call DEC's Bureau of Recreation at 518-457-2500. To make reservations at any of these camping facilities, call ReserveAmerica at 1-800-456-CAMP (2267) or visit https://newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com.
