Learning about Tools, Trades, Torque and Tech

Over 900 students participated in the T-4 Event last week held at the Rough Rider Center. The purpose of the event is to introduce students to a variety of hands-on jobs to help them in their career exploration phase. Learn more in this news story from KX News.
Ribfest entertainment announced

Parmalee--a chart topping county band will be the headliner for the 2021 Best of the West Ribfest. Other entertainment includes the Party After Dark featuring Snake Oil and the evening's opening act will be Matt Aakre and The Dirty Little Secret.

The Best of the West Ribfest will be held on Main Street Watford City on Friday, August 13.
Economy at a Glance

The April Economy at a Glance is now available. Some data of note include:

  • McKenzie County unemployment rates remain similar--8.1% in January 2021 and 8.0% in February 2021.

  • Taxable sales and purchases decreased from $90.8 million in 2019Q4 to $55.8 million in 2020Q4 for McKenzie County.

  • McKenzie County had 12 building permits issued in March 2021, totaling over $5 million in value.
Grand opening in Alexander

Alexander has a brand new building in its downtown. First International Bank & Trust built a new building featuring expanded office space, drive up window service and an Interactive Teller Machine.

The bank will be holding a grand opening on May 12, which includes an open house from 10am-4pm and a ribbon cutting at 5pm.
MHA Nation gets new first responder facility

The Mandan Hidatsa and Arikara Nation now has a new first responder facility in the Mandaree area. The space serves both the Fire Department and the Emergency Medical Services. See this KFYR news story for more information.
New coffee shop

Meg-A-Latte has announced it will be soon be opening a coffee shop in Watford City. With three locations already in Williston, the specialty coffee shop serves gourmet coffee, teas, smoothies, shakes, bakery, and lunch items.

The Watford City location will be at 109 6th Ave SE-- the site of the former Taco Johns.
New dentist

Legendary Smiles has added a third dentist to their staff. Earlier this month Dr. Danielle DeMorrow joined the growing team. She joins Dr. Bulzomi and Dr. Burbach.

Legendary Smiles is open 8am-5pm Monday-Thursday and is located at 361 N Main Street Watford City.
Bismarck Bucks host training camp at RRC

The Rough Rider Center added a new use to its wide repertoire of unique events it is able to host. Last week they had their first-ever professional indoor football league team training camp. The Bismarck Bucks spent their 10 day training camp utilizing the top of the line facilities with indoor turf being set up in the area. The Bucks were also able to introduce themselves to area residents and youth sport enthusiasts as well as host a scrimmage. The Bucks first home game will be in Bismarck May 8th against the Massachusetts Pirates.
New feed store

All Around Feed & Supply has opened for business. They offer retail feed, mineral, and animal health products. Currently they are operating out of Helena Ag while they construct a permanent location. Once construction is finished they will be located at 503 3rd Ave SW, Watford City.

New greenhouse

A new greenhouse is now in our community with the addition of the Western Sky Greenhouse.
Their selection will include a large variety of annuals, bedding plants, hanging baskets, vegetables, herbs, perennials, trees, shrubs, arranged planters, and custom plantings. Weather permitting they will be opening on April 26. Find them at 1348 140th Avenue NW, Arnegard.


BurgerSear opens

The Smiling Moose Rocky Mountain Deli location in Watford City announced the expansion of their product line through the addition of BurgerSear. In addition to the hand-formed, smashed and seared burgers, they offer new sides including mac & cheese, waffle fries and more. Find them at 1005 S Main St, Watford City.
