ReWork Richmond Update

ReWork members supported by Rotary continue to show progress. Twenty five members are being sponsored by The Rotary Club of Richmond. Of the 25, 6 are now associate members. Below are updates on two members:

Shannon - Has overcome major barriers such as childcare and transportation. She recently passed her Certified Nursing Assistant Course and is actively looking for jobs. ReWork continues to guide Shannon by providing a career plan. She's currently exploring career opportunities with VCU and looking into Nursing School. Her next career goal is to become a LPN.

Rachelle K. - Recently landed a new job with the Department of Utilities. This was perfect timing as she had been unemployed for several months. ReWork is helping Rachelle with mapping out her next career steps.

Big thanks go to Rotarian Eric Stamper who was recently onboarded as a financial coach. ReWork is always in need of financial coaches and resume writers. Contact Todd Martin toddDmartin@comcast.net if you are interested or reach out to ReWork directly.

Rugby in Richmond

Richmond Times-Dispatch - Team USA’s Alex Sedrick was the hero. She stiff-armed her way through the Australian defense to create space and then sprinted the length of the field to tie the score. Her calm kick moments later clinched the Americans’ first bronze medal in women’s rugby. “It was kind of a miracle,” said Scott Coffield, a longtime local player and fan of the game. “It’s fun, it’s exciting. This is really going to start to bring about a lot more curiosity and get a lot more people to be involved in actually playing rugby.

Golden Rotarian Award Presented to Chuck DuVall

A loyal and faithful Rotarian, Chuck Duvall has maintained perfect attendance with the Rotary Club of Richmond for over 42 years. He is a dedicated Rotarian and has remained continuously active in club activities such as Meals on Wheels, Project Build a Ramp, Project WARM, and Club Membership and Community Grants chairs during this span of time.

DuVall continues to be employed with his own firm, Lindl Corporation, as a lobbyist for state government in Richmond, Va. DuVall has won numerous awards over the years, including Paul Harris +5 and our venerable Claude Harris award twice.

After serving as Club Board Director, Secretary, and President-elect, he became President of the club in 2021-22. John White recounts that Chuck Duvall spearheaded significant fundraising activities and events that raised $70,000 plus in funds for the club. White notes "Chuck DuVall's management is outstanding. He identified our club's 3 year $150,000 project ReWork Richmond -to support low income individuals in Richmond with a new career focus and gainful employment. He is always available and a source of all things Rotary."

Chuck would give out a prize each month at our luncheon meetings to a club member. He would refer to this individual "as the sharpest tool in the box". The same may be said about Chuck DuVall -a loyal and faithful Rotarian with Service Above Self.
