New Ground, Familiar Names

Summer is in full swing, and so is JRC. A second Kroger is on the way, a new client relationship is taking shape from the ground up, and projects across Detroit are moving from paper to reality. Here's what's moving.

Building From the Ground Up for CFCS

Not every new client relationship starts small but this one starts focused.

JRC is constructing a new 3,802-square-foot, ground-up administration building for Catholic Funeral and Cemetery Services (CFCS), supporting the organization's operations. It's a compact project with an outsized purpose, and a welcome new name on JRC's client roster.

1728 Michigan Avenue Moves Forward in Corktown

A surface parking lot on one of Detroit's most recognizable corridors is another step closer to becoming a nine-story mixed-use development. JRC is serving as construction manager on 1728 Michigan Avenue, a 60-unit residential building with roughly 2,500 SF of ground-floor retail, developed by Corktown Development Properties. Detroit City Council approved the tax incentives supporting the project in mid-July, and construction is expected to begin in September.

JRC Breaks Ground (Again) with Kroger in Dearborn, MI

One project with a repeat client is a good sign. A second is a relationship.

JRC is preparing to break ground on a new 122,000-square-foot, ground-up Kroger store in Dearborn, the company's second project with Kroger and another chance to build on a partnership that continues to grow. With a construction value of approximately $12 million, the store is expected to break ground in the coming weeks.

Ground-up grocery projects at this scale don't come together without close coordination between owner, architect, and contractor from day one and that's exactly the kind of work JRC was built for.

It's the little things.

When people think about construction, they usually picture the big moments. The crane lifting steel into place. The concrete pour. The ribbon cutting when it's all finished. These moments matter, but they're only part of the story.

Spend a little time on a jobsite and you'll notice it's often the smaller things that keep a project moving. A superintendent catching a potential issue before it becomes a delay. Two trades working together to solve a problem instead of pointing fingers. A delivery showing up right when it's needed. A quick conversation that saves hours of rework later.

None of those moments make the news, and most will never be seen. But they happen every day.

Construction is full of big milestones, but successful projects are usually built on hundreds of small ones. That's the part of the job we get to see from the field, and it's one of the reasons every completed project is something to be proud of.

"We're grateful for every opportunity to build something new, but we're especially proud when a client asks us to do it again. Those relationships are the foundation of everything we do."
