MAKING A DIFFERENCE

We will welcome Mr. Jarvis Sackman from Hillcrest Ministries at a special Adult Forum this Sunday at 9:00 am between services.

We have invited Mr. Sackman to share with us for how we might also participate in outreach opportunities offered to the homeless in our community. This ministry makes a big differences by helping people help themselves out of their suppressing situations.

Hillcrest Ministry is Solving Homelessness One Family at a Time
Hillcrest is a transitional housing program providing a Christian environment that helps homeless families become self-supportive, self-reliant contributors to society.

Hillcrest Transitional Housing offers homeless families, singles and youth a disciplined educational program within a caring, supportive environment. Unlike many organizations whose focus is one-time or emergency care, Hillcrest’s primary objective is to move clients from homelessness to self-sufficiency by addressing the total life situation of the homeless families they serve. At any given time, there are approximately 100 households in our care.

Hillcrest provides:

In exchange for rent- and utility-free housing, adults are required by written agreement to find full-time employment; obey program guidelines; and attend weekly volunteer-taught classes in life skills, employment, community living, and budgeting. Through a network of community supporters and funders, Hillcrest also may provide transitional housing clients with car repair/donation, food, medical assistance, dental work, GED classes, haircuts, glasses, school clothes, work uniforms, etc.

Finding Faith Through Fiction Book Club
TUESDAY, AUGUST 16 AT 1:00 PM

Everyone welcome! Please join us at the church at Tuesday, August 16 at 1:00 pm to discuss The Stranger in the Life Boat by Mitch Albom.

#1 New York Times Bestseller
What would happen if we called on God for help and God actually appeared? In Mitch Albom’s profound new novel of hope and faith, a group of shipwrecked passengers pull a strange man from the sea. He claims to be “the Lord.” And he says he can only save them if they all believe in him. A fast-paced, compelling novel that makes you ponder your deepest beliefs, The Stranger in the Lifeboat suggests that answers to our prayers may be found where we least expect them.
