The Herd Intergenerational Learning Center
The Herd Intergenerational Learning Center in Victoria, Australia opened its doors in January 2023. Developed by sisters and early childhood teachers Anna and Fiona Glumac, the centre was inspired by their late grandmother who spent the last year of her life in residential care. The name pays homage to elephants’ respect for their older herd members. The early learning centre is built under the same roof as the Uniting AgeWell Andrew Kerr Care aged care facility. Residents of Andrew Kerr Care are encouraged to visit a special viewing space in the child care centre to watch the children play. Across the working week, children from each ‘class’ or ‘room’ of the child care centre have daily visits planned with a group of residents. Learn more about The Herd Intergenerational Learning Center here.

"For so many Americans, grandparents are the first people they look to for comfort, love, and guidance. Grandparents carry family wisdom, share their stories, and are the core of their families. On National Grandparents Day, we give thanks to grandparents and recognize their continuing contributions to our Nation."
— President Joe Biden, 46th and current president of the United States.
