#MHAM2024

May is Mental Health Awareness Month (MHAM)! Did you know that 1 in 5 Oklahomans will experience a mental illness each year? Oftentimes, HeartLine is the first point of contact for Oklahomans seeking help & hope.

In 2023, we handled a total of 406,777 contacts across our various helplines. Approximately 33% of these calls were directly related to mental health and addiction concerns. These figures underscore the increasing demand for mental health support among Oklahomans, highlighting the vital role our call center plays in providing assistance and resources to those in need.

At HeartLine, we are dedicated to making a tangible difference in the lives of people experiencing mental health challenges by:

⏱️ Providing immediate and accessible crisis intervention and mental health support.

πŸ‘ Encouraging early intervention and seeking help before reaching a crisis point.

❌ Reducing the stigma associated with mental health challenges through education, advocacy, and fostering open conversations.

❀️ Building strong and resilient communities by helping all people, in any life situation.

Our life-saving work is only possible through strong community support. Whether it's spreading the word and having open conversations about mental health or showing your support through a monthly donation, every action you take can make a profound difference in the lives of our callers. Together, we can ensure that no one has to feel alone in their mental health journey.

A Moment of Impact

One of our team members recently handled a call where the person was in distress, contemplating self-harm and needed immediate intervention. With remarkable skill and compassion, our team member successfully de-escalated the situation, guiding the caller to safely transport themselves to the nearest hospital, despite being approximately 30 minutes away.

Throughout this situation, our team member remained on the line, providing continuous support and reassurance. Even when the call was momentarily disconnected, they promptly reconnected and continued to offer assistance until the caller reached the emergency room. Once they arrived, our crisis counselor advocated for the caller's well-being to hospital staff. This team member undoubtedly played a vital role in saving a life.

Connections like this would not be possible without supporters like you. This Mental Health Awareness Month, let us all rally to support one-another, share resources, and be a compassionate ear to anyone who needs it.
