oin MGNE and
#LOCAL Gallery
of Easthampton, Massachusetts for the opening of
Singular: Monotypes and Monoprints
, a regional member-initiated exhibition by the Monotype Guild of New England, curated by Doris Madsen, Elisa Lanzi and Edda Sigurðardóttir. The gallery is located at 40 Cottage Street, Easthampton, Massachusetts.
Monotypes and monoprints are “singular” one-of-a-kind and unique art works. Dating back to the 17th century, the monotype process offers the artist an opportunity for direct visual expression using hand-pulled techniques. Besides being the opposite of many or plural, “singular” can mean extraordinary or spectacular as in a “singular experience”. Something that surprises can be singular. It can also refer to being unusual or strange, as in a “singular behavior”.
The exhibiting artists are: Lisa Barthelson, Linda Batchelor, Joan Dix Blair, Valerie Carrigan, Alexandra Cherau, Clara Kent Dennison, Olwen Dowling, Elisa Lanzi, Paul Lewis, Archibald Macinnes, Doris Madsen, Marjorie Morgan, Lynn Peterfreund, Connie Pogue, Erika Radich, Jan Ruby, Bobbie Salthouse, Edda Sigurðardóttir, Nancy Whitcher, Esther White, Janet Winston and Joan Safford Wright.
The exhibition will feature an
artists' reception
on
February 7, 6-9 pm
, a
printmaking demonstration
at the Gallery by exhibiting artist Lynn Peterfreund on
February 13, 6-8 pm
, and an
Art Salon
with selected artists on
February 28, 6-8 pm
. The reception on February 7 is part of
Easthampton Art Walk
, held on the first Friday of every month 6-9 pm. This exhibit is supported in part by a grant from the Easthampton Cultural Council, a local agency which is sponsored by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Small is Beautiful!
If you haven’t been working small, we have a challenge for you. Later this year, MGNE is having an exhibition at
Stone Valley Arts Center
in Poultney, Vermont. The title of this show is
Priority Prints
and for once, it will be very easy to get your work to the gallery.
All work will be mailed in a Tyvek USPS Priority envelope with a stamped, return envelope tucked inside. Every matted piece must have the exact outside mat dimensions of 11x14 inches.
The matted works will be shown in clear envelopes. A second option will be un-matted work (bleed prints) with an exact dimension of 11x14 inches. The bleed prints will be shown under Plexiglass provided by the gallery, but with no mats.
The show will take place in September and the work will be due to arrive at the gallery in mid to late August. Think SMALL!
Open Members' Exhibition:
Exhibitions is also working on an MGNE open members' exhibition at Zullo Gallery in Medfield, Massachusetts in November and December.

EXHIBITIONS NEEDS HELP, AGAIN!!!
There’s a lot going on with Exhibitions, which is exactly what we want. We appreciate your response to our request for committee members and are thrilled to have three people volunteer to tackle that list we published.
Now we are asking you to help us find venues, especially for our large shows. We are particularly looking for a place for our next National Show. We had a few ideas that didn’t work out, venue too small, waiting list too long, etc. So we are back to the drawing board.
We need as many places as you can send us, large or small, galleries, museums, colleges or art complexes. For a National Show, we look for galleries that can hold one hundred works.
Don’t worry about reaching out to these places yourselves. We have a committee member to do that. However, any names or personal connections that we could mention would be a big help. We usually have more negative than positive responses and are looking at scheduling for 2021 and 2022, so we need lots to work with.
To be sure that your emails go directly to us and don’t get lost, please send your ideas, suggestions, and contacts to:
Thank you,
Kate and Andi
