Coordinators' Corner

We just want to take this opportunity to say how thankful we are for our IB Bulldog family! We are thankful that our students and families chose Central and do their part to make this the best high school in town. We are eternally grateful for our Central teachers and staff for all that they do for our students and the school. They work miracles on a daily basis!

We encourage our students to show their gratitude for their parents, teachers, and Central support staff throughout the month of November. It's a great time to show off our Learner Profile traits of reflective and caring!

Central Math Team Sweeps Up the Competition!

Our CHS math team attended their first math contest of the year last month at OTC in Nixa. In total there were 84 students from 8 schools represented. Central took 21 students to the contest and brought home some great results! Out of those 21, 15 students qualified for state from this first contest. Central also took 1st place in overall sweepstakes, 1st and 2nd in team round, 1st, 4th, and 5th in the relay round, and many more top finishes in the individual rounds.

Our state qualifiers from this contest were: Kriti Bande, Gianna Oghlakian, Lanie Deng, Lauraleigh Bowser, Samantha Hodge, Tigerlily Wang, Jathin Bande, Gavin Luo, Bijayesh Pradhan, Zain Saquer, Kael Hitchcock, Naomi Meng, Quinn King, Joseph Robbins, Kennedy Orr

(Also, a shout out to Fiona Lu and Dhruvi Patel who came along to help Mrs. Hunter with the operations side of the event. They would not have been able to process tests and get results nearly as quickly without their help!)

CHS Boys Swim & Dive

The Central Boys Swim & Dive Team has been on a roll this season! They took 2nd place in the All City Meet, then went on to get 1st Place in the Central Ozarks Conference Meet--the best finish Central has ever had! AND THEN...they placed 2nd in the Springfield Invite, second only to the best team in the state (Rockhurst).

Please wish them luck as they compete November 1st & 2nd in the Southwest Missouri Championship Meet. Then it's on to state!

All of these boys are a part of IB in some way (MYP, DP, CP or Individual Course). We're proud to have them represent both Central and our IB Programs! Go Bulldogs!

Girls Golf Wins 2nd Place at State!

The Central Girls Golf team competed in the Class 3 State Championship at Rivercut Golf Course October 21s & 22nd. The team consisting of Phoebe Lin, Camilla Lu, Hampton Richards, and Finley Loethen placed 2nd in the State Tournament. Phoebe Lin & Camilla Lu garnered All-State Honors.

Way to Go Girls!

Oh, and by the way, all of these girls are ALSO a part of Central IB (MYP, DP & Individual Course)! Great job showing Missouri what our IB Bulldogs can do!

Mark Your Calendars!

The IB Science courses will be showcasing the Collaborative Science Projects this year December 7th in the Commons from 5-7pm.

The collaborative sciences project (CSP) gives IB students the opportunity to work together in an interdisciplinary team. They work towards a common goal related to a real-world issue, pursued through the lens of the scientific method. Throughout the project, the emphasis is on the experience of collaborative problem-solving, the focus being the process rather than the product.

HL Literature

Seniors in HL Literature will soon begin working on their HL Essays. Students choose a literary topic, and one of the works they have read in the course and create a literary analysis paper. This paper is one of the four IB assessments in the course and is graded externally.

CP Spotlight

CP Reflective Project

CP seniors have been busy writing their first drafts of their reflective project. They have met with their advisors for feedback, and have been reflecting on the process.

Important Information from CHS Journalism

School picture RETAKES day will be on Wednesday, November 13th in the Pit. If your student did not take their photo on the original picture day, please make sure they take their photo with Lifetouch on this day so that they will be included in the yearbook. The yearbook staff does not accept outside photos for the album section.

Speaking of yearbooks, yearbooks can be purchased online at jostensyearbooks.com. The price is $50 until the end of February. There are also personalization options and payment plan options available online.

Do you have a senior? Do you want them to have a special shout-out in the yearbook? Senior recognition ads are also available for purchase at jostensyearbooks.com. Senior recognition ads are a great place to leave your senior a heartfelt note and submit your own photos, whether that be baby photos or senior photos. The deadline for purchasing your senior's recognition ad and submitting all photos and notes is February 8.

Do you know somebody who owns a local business and would like to support the school's quarterly newsmagazine, The Central High Times? The CHT staff is looking for local businesses who might be interested in donating toward the printing costs of the magazine through sponsorship or by purchasing advertising space in each issue of the magazine. For more information, please contact the print journalism adviser, Kori O'Dell, at keodell@spsmail.org.
