Joanne's Meeting and Event EGuide
March 18, 2022

If you need a little motivation today, call 707-998-8410. It's a school project where kindergartners give you a pep talk.

I did and i laughed and I cried and I did feel better. Thanks to Kim Cowperthwait, CMP for sharing this with me.

Just in case you missed the last edition, here is a link to it for you

Congratulations New CMP

I have crossed paths during their preparation through a mixture of my 16-hour virtual classes, my two-day in-person classes, the MPI Global Master Class, my videos, and some random conversations. I am very proud and happy for you, and it means a lot to have been part of your journey.

Hmmmmm……be interesting to see if this catches on elsewhere.

What is Going on with the CMP Class?

Nobody has asked this question more than me. We have a small team here and to make sure I give you the best class I can, I need to make sure I have the people in place for support. I understand if you have to make other plans and go to another class.

For many years my in-person class was all day Friday/Saturday and Sunday. With videos to cover some of the information, I was eventually able to change it to full days (8 hours) Saturday and Sunday. This helped a lot of people because it was a struggle to get Fridays off at times. The virtual class has had many different patterns of days and times in its less than 2 years, as the pandemic made changes in our lives. I realized quickly that 8-hour virtual classes do not allow me to be my best—for you. I once again see people struggling to get Friday’s off and I know they are only partially with me if they are still at work. I have made the decision that this upcoming class will be Saturdays and/or Sundays, again at 4 hours each day, afternoons Eastern Time. This may be scheduled over two, three or four weekends. I am hoping that lowers your stress for both work and personal and allows you to be more “all in” for the class. More on that another time.

There is no perfect schedule for everyone, but for now, this seems to be the best for this point in time. I do watch and listen. There may be other types of schedules as the year moves on. I am now looking at late April or May. April is a very challenging month with four major religious holidays. I am working every day to make a schedule that will work for both me, and you.

Where are your meetings going to be?

Consumer Trends impacting Business events
Some things you probably have not thought of.

Delta and Carryon Bags
I think many of us have been saying this for years!

No Fly List
Please! I read the other day that some politicians are against this because it makes those passengers appear to be “terrorists”. If you are trying to break down the cockpit door, or open the exterior door, I am totally ok with that term.

Keeping the Keycard
I wrote the author and told him that at meetings and events they are frequently sold as sponsorships and they would love for people to take them---and the hotel can’t reuse then anyway.

Medical Meetings
As I am fond of saying…Sit in the Attendees Chair. It’s not about you.
Are you Part of Joanne’s CMP Community?

For years I have been working towards building a viable virtual community for all those who worked with me on their CMP journey. Over the years I have found many like to connect with each other, even from my virtual classes. LinkedIn changed many things so it just did not work well in the past few years.

We have launched a community on a different platform that we hope will be a place for you to connect with others because of interest, similar jobs, geographical areas, job searches…you get the idea. This will eventually also lead to some in person events.

Who will it be open to? Anyone who has taken a CMP class directly through me and my company whether it was the three-day or two-day in person, or the virtual classes of the past two year and the future. I have decided to add people who took classes offered by other organizations, who hired me to teach such as:

MP Global WEC, PEC, MeetDifferent, IMEX Smart Mondays and CMP at Sea, Beijing, Thailand, Los Cabos and also at least two Chapters.
Other industry organizations that had me teach half or full day CMP prep sessions, at their events.

Want to be involved? If you attended my virtual classes we have you on the list, although if your email has changed we needs you to let us know. If you attended my in-person classes from 2000 – 2020 we may or may not have the class lists---we are going through computers and paper folders, but we can use your help too. And if you attended any of the others, I usually was not given class lists so good chance I don’t have your information.

If you did not receive an invitation email last week please email Kelly@joannedennison.com and let her know your name, email and as much information about the class you took: When, where etc.

Oh and you do not have to have finished your CMP. You can still be “on the journey” with me.

As people have said…you never really get rid of me.

Olympics

Another Protocol Point: Did you notice that the parade of countries for the Opening Ceremony were in alphabetical order for the host country? It was a very interesting lesson as to how something is alphabetized in Chinese.

A wonderful sustainable story about the flowers---di you know they were not fresh flowers? But no not what you think of –silk etc.  Even better. I thought they were beautiful and I love the fact they can take them home and keep them forever. .
