The Art of Slowing Down
in a Fast-Paced World
"Nature's rhythm is medium to slow. Many of us live in the fast lane, out of nature's rhythm. There are two things we can never do in the fast lane: we can neither deepen our experience nor integrate it. Silence and nature foster an environment in which we can do this work and nurture our spirit."

~ Angeles Arrien
Being together in "nature's rhythm" is one of the central invitations of World Cafe. Slowing down ~ becoming present to the here and now ~ pausing when needed ~ intentional pacing... These are essential hosting skills that build on a willingness to consciously choose the slow lane.

It is good to remind ourselves and each other of intentional practices that support us in slowing down. In this month's World Cafe Hosting Dojo, we spoke about practices like lighting a candle, going out in nature, breathing, creating short rituals, writing, and many more.

Take a moment now and think of five of your own practices for slowing down in a fast-paced world... You might be surprised what emerges.

And if this topic is meaningful for you: come and join us at the Community Cafe on Monday, November 15. We'll take time to deepen the inquiry, together.
