Will you Take Action to make "Raise the Age" the law?

The Massachusetts State Senate passed an amendment to the Economic Development legislation which would raise the age of juvenile court jurisdiction to include 18-year-olds only (see coverage of the vote here). This is the closest we have ever been to seeing Raise the Age pass, and we have an amazing opportunity to make this happen before the year ends! But because the bill passed in the Senate but did not in the House, it is subject to a six-member conference committee who will negotiate on which policies what make it in the final bill and which ones get cut out.

Your outreach to your own state representative and senator over the past year and a half got Raise the Age this far. It's now your legislators' turn to let the conference committee know of their support.

Send a message to your state representative and state senator and share this exciting update with them this exciting update, and give them the information that they need to advocate with their colleagues on the conference committee.

  • Action 1: Send a letter of support to the Conference Committee sharing your viewpoints of why Raise the Age matters to you.

  • Action 2:: Send a short message to your state representative and state senator asking them to contact the Conference Committee directly and pledge their support.

Raising the Age will position young people to be able to transition into a successful and productive adulthood, meaningfully participate in our economy and become a part of the workforce without enduring the significant barriers posed by criminal records.
