The White Plains Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) program is seeking public input on projects proposed for downtown at the second and final Public Workshop to be held at the City of White Plains Public Library, 2nd Fl. – Gallery and Auditorium located at 100 Martine Ave. on Monday, September 9, from 6-8 pm. The City of White Plains was awarded $10 million in funding as the Mid-Hudson Region winner of the seventh round of the DRI to revitalize the downtown neighborhood (“The Heart of White Plains”).

White Plains Firefighter
The City of White Plains is actively seeking a diverse pool of candidates for the March 1, 2025 Firefighter Civil Service Exam. The exam is open to Westchester County residents; however White Plains residents will be given preference in appointment. The salary range is $59,417 – $116,056 (subject to change).

Hamilton Green "Topping Out" Ceremony | |
|
Mayor Roach joined the developers, government officials and hundreds of construction workers at the "Topping Out" ceremony for a new 26-story glass residential tower in the Hamilton Green project before a giant American flag on August 26.
"These buildings will make this particular area, Main Street and Hamilton, less sterile and more walkable for people," Mayor Roach said. "We have great momentum here in this city, this is a great location and a wonderful community."
Hamilton Green will consist of four buildings a total of 860 rental units, including 78 affordable units, plus 84,000 square feet of commercial space and parking for 964 cars.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Liberty Park | |
The City's annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will take place at Liberty Park on Lake St. at 8:30 am on Wednesday, September 11.
Liberty Park is the site of the City's permanent memorial to the people and events of September 11, 2001.

DPW Team Enhances Its Tree Care Skills | |
|
The members of the White Plains Department of Public Works team, that takes care of all trees on public property, were recognized at a City Hall ceremony for the recent Certified Tree Steward Training they received from the Cornell Cooperative Extension to enhance their tree care skills and knowledge.
The advanced training program was part of the $1 million three-year grant the City recently received to plant 600 new trees in White Plains in the next three years. The tree-planting phase of the project is set to begin this Fall.

Pedro Sierra Day in White Plains
Mayor Roach presented Pedro Sierra of the National Negro League with a proclamation declaring August 14, 2024, Pedro Sierra Day in the City of White Plains. The ceremony was held at Arts Westchester. The program - Discover Greatness, an Illustrated History of the Negro Leagues was presented by the African American Men of Westchester. Pedro played baseball for 22 years, including in the Minnesota Twins farm system. (Read more about Pedro here.)
