Virtual Paint Togethers
A Great Success
|
LOCA recently collaborated with Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) in presenting a series of landscape painting webinars called Virtual Paint Togethers. Top rated LPAPA artists demonstrating techniques included Mark Fehlman, Debra Huse, Daniel Marshall, Lisa Skelly, Michael Obermeyer (see photo), and Wendy Wirth. Those who registered enjoyed a live webinar, and they received a supplies list and recording of the demo for future reference. Attendees learned a lot, and feedback was very positive.

LOCA conducts free, weekly art workshops at Glennwood House, a residence for special needs adults in Laguna Beach. A recent project, Butterfly Pins, was designed by Valerie Gorrell and Jan Sattler, and taught by guest instructor Flo on the big screen in the multi-purpose room. Using cutout butterfly silhouettes, participants selected photos from magazines, arranged them in eye-catching layouts, and collaged them on. Pins were added to the back to make them wearable. See more finished Butterfly Pins on LOCA's Facebook page.

FOA Foundation Supports LOCA
|
LOCA received a major grant from the FoA Foundation, based at Festival of Arts. The grant will enable LOCA to continue its free and affordable programs in fall 2021 and spring 2022. LOCA serves hundreds annually in all age groups including those aged 50 and up at the Laguna Beach Community Center, and at the recently added Art in the Garden classes offered at outdoor locations with subjects including flowers in colored pencil, and oranges in watercolor. Youth of all ages benefit from LOCA’s education programs including the award-winning Even Start and Kinder Buddy program at Boys and Girls Club. A recent project focused on tide pool creatures drawn with wax crayons, and layered with blue watercolor washes. Other youth projects involve drawing & painting of local nature subjects that compliment academic studies. Classes, taught by local professional artists, are custom-designed to fit particular age groups and skill levels. “We thank the FoA Foundation for enabling us to continue educating our entire community,” added LOCA President Carla Meberg.
