Beginning August 1, 2026, Louisiana's new Behind the Counter Protection Act strengthens protections for employees who interact with customers at checkout counters, service desks, drive-through windows, and other points of transaction.

While the law does not mandate specific employee training, it provides an excellent opportunity for employers to review workplace violence policies and equip employees with the skills needed to navigate challenging situations safely and professionally.
