FROM THE ORGAN LOFT

This Sunday's prelude is inspired by the summer Olympics, featuring music by French composer Louis Vierne. Vierne served as the organist at Notre Dame Cathedral from 1900 to 1937. During his tenure, the cathedral's organ underwent extensive repairs, prompting Vierne to embark on a transatlantic tour to raise funds. His journey brought him to Philadelphia, where he performed on the Wanamaker organ. The chosen prelude, titled "Lied" (German for "song"), showcases a simple yet beautiful melody, living up to its name with its singing quality.

Harmoniously yours,

Suzanne McDonald
