Why it matters |
Month seven of CPI data is in. September’s 0.6% spike puts USPS rate authority at 2.105% (2.194% for Marketing Mail with banked authority), and the Postal Service’s own forecast for July 2027 now sits near 3.2% CPI plus a 2.63% density factor — well below the 7.8% projected in June.
For magazine and catalog mailers, the final number locks in March 10. Higher mail volume could pull density down, but rising inflation could push CPI up, so keep a close eye on inflation as you budget 2027 postage.
