On the Threshold of Time

- Peter Marshall, 1949

Lord Jesus, as we look into the future, let no fears assail us. Help us to be as confident that Thou wilt be with us in the future as we know Thou hast been in the past.

…Where we are inclined to be satisfied with ourselves as we are, make us willing to be changed. Give to us a more sincere kind of faith, a more virile, a more liveable faith, not alone a religion that smacks of Sunday, but the kind of faith that can be used Monday and will not have evaporated by Saturday.

Hear us as we pray, standing on the threshold of time. Thou alone canst equip us for the tasks and the duties that are ours, that we may do our very best.

A small delegation from SCAPC attended the Together New Orleans Future of Our City meeting at Dilliard University on Sunday to listen to proposals for city-wide improvement in preparation for the upcoming mayoral and city council elections. Over 700 representatives from local faith communities and community organizations gathered to discuss bipartisan policy proposals for local officials on community lighthouses, home owners insurance, citywide infrastructure, jobs, utility reform, and increasing use of solar energy for storm and power grids sustainability. Another event is scheduled for September 18 that will be a candidates forum. Please contact Ashley Brown if you are interested in participating.

Windows Into Our Past

Our special thanks go out to Philip Weller who delivered to us a copy of SCAPC's 1956 Yearbook which contained a full outline of ministries and leadership, a membership roll, and these delightful photos of our Avenue entrance and sanctuary. The Yearbook's introduction reads in part, "It is hoped that the achievements and opportunities presented herein will awaken a larger response in all of our congregation and challenge and enlist newcomers in the work and worship of the church on 'the welcome corner'."
