Mid-Year Ministry Update

July 2026 EDITION

Breaking Barriers. Building Futures.

WINGS Ministries exists to offer marginalized women HOPE for a transformed life by equipping them with employment-readiness, life skills, and a clear understanding of their true identity in Christ.

In this edition, we're shining a spotlight on our Foster Youth Program

and the incredible opportunity God has given us to invest in the lives of young women in the foster care system.

Read on to see how WINGS is helping these girls to break barriers and build bright futures!

WINGS' Foster Youth Program

Team Lead

Crissie, who has faithfully served our foster youth since WINGS launched this program in 2024, shares her experience with the young women in the girls' homes:

I’ve been working with teenage girls from Trels Foster Home system for two years now. In that time, we’ve changed locations, taught WINGS’ work-readiness and life skills curriculum 3 times, and interacted with 20 girls. Along the way, we learned to make significant modifications to the way we present the material, creating a more interactive and applicable program for their stage in life.

Since beginning the WINGS Foster Youth program two years ago, we’ve broken up the typical 8 lessons for adults to 11 lessons for teens and are continuing to incorporate ideas to make each lesson more interactive.

I’ve grown so fond of these young women, and have such high hopes for their future. They have faced - and will face - challenges in life that I struggle to understand, many that result in various behavioral challenges. In spite of that, they are open to input and to learning new skills. I sometimes tell them that, in some ways, they are more emotionally mature than many adults I know because they are having to face struggles head on, and are willing to talk through the options for managing them.

Two of the girls in the group will be seniors this year. Both of them were able to secure jobs this summer and credited our practice answering interview questions with helping them have more confidence when interviewing! I’m looking forward to helping them make plans for what’s next after that graduate.

We’ve certainly encountered challenges as we’ve entered the foster teen space. The more I learn with and about them, the less I know! But one thing I do know: I receive a lot of thank you’s every time I’m with them - and we are building life skills, sharing God’s Word, and praying together.

Seeds are being sown!

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Beyond WINGS foster youth curriculum, activities to provide growth, exposure, and encouragement beyond traditional learning were also planned this summer!

Crissie Chenette writes:

Entergy was proud to collaborate with non-profit WINGS Ministries to host local foster teens on June 24, 2026 to provide a tour of Montgomery County Power Station and the Remote Operations Control Center at Lake Front North.

They also got to participate in a class to make their own pottery

on a pottery wheel!

WHAT THE GIRLS ARE SAYING

We value what our participants have to say about our program.

Here are some comments from our foster program girls!

"The job interview was helpful because when we practiced it helped me get the hang of it for when I went for my job interview. The questions were similar and I felt confident. My supervisor said I did good on my interview, and I think it will also help for a later job. Y'all just being here shows y'all care. The visit [to Entergy] was cool. The people were amazing." ~R

"Budgeting was helpful – there was new information I hadn’t heard before. My dad hasn’t really taught me anything about that. I really enjoyed the visit [to Entergy]. I’m thinking more about what I want to do. I’ve always wanted to do something with computers and IT, and I liked what I saw in the Remote-Operations Control Center. (But she mentioned her favorite part was seeing the large equipment at the power plant and might consider working with something like that.) ~C

"Recently I’ve been feeling closed off with God. Every time I do this class, it reminds me He’s always there and I can always run back." ~S

IT'S A TEAM EFFORT

"We had 2 more graduates last night which puts us up to 49 for the year so far. I'm shocked, as this is comparable to the numbers we had at Jac House [now closed] with so many more women in the program.

Yay, Wings!"
