Note from the president of ACVA- June 2021
Solstice edition Greetings dear friends of ACVA!
Greetings dear friends of ACVA! We hope that things are improving for you, as the planets also improve their positions. Yes, Mars is still debilitated, but both Saturn and Jupiter are situated pleasantly enough, and we are now past the eclipses. Very helpfully, Mercury (one of the planets associated with Jyotisha) will soon be in a high-functioning place, in Gemini, while receiving a graceful aspect from Jupiter. This is a lovely combination involving information, and the wisdom to put it into practice. July is a wonderful month to focus on learning the Science of Light. So, here’s looking forward to more intelligence in our collective lives.

STAR GUIDANCE – SUMMER 2021
Jun, 2021
Lynn Bootes
lynn.bootes@acvaonline.org
Welcome to Northern Hemisphere Summer! Our ACVA President Charlotte Benson has highlighted the action of Jupiter as it stays in the early degrees of Aquarius all summer long. Anyone who has planets or lagna in the air rashis of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius will receive a happy boost which will last all summer. The same goes for the Leo people, particularly during the late summer when the Sun is in Leo. This is “Dr. Yes!” paying a visit and casting wisdom and optimism for all. Be sure to get a look at Jupiter in the night sky, especially near the Full Moon periods.
Mars and Saturn begin the summer season in a dance of opposition: Mars debilitated in Cancer opposite to Saturn in its own sign of Capricorn and bright and retrograde. The good news is that the maximum effect of this Mars/Saturn opposition is at the last week of June and the first week of July, and then it is done. Saturn will be opposite the Sun in the mid-summer from July 17 to August 17, where it will be visible in the night sky. By then, happily, Mars will have moved out of Cancer into Leo (July 19) where it will function more in its fiery element in the sign of its planetary friend the Sun. In this early summer month we will all want to be doing our part to soothe our own aggravated emotions and to maintaining a calm reflective attitude. This is our best gift to those around us who may be on edge and aggravated. While news of the world brings us stories of fear and illness, particularly right now affecting our friends in India, the stars seems to show a gradual improvement after July 17 as the Mars opposition to Saturn ends.

MEET THE PLANETS – SUN AND MOON
Jun , 2021
Lynn Bootes
lynn.bootes@acvaonline.org
Writing about the Sun and Moon is like writing about one's father and mother. These two are the Lights or Luminary Grahas, the ones which cast light and which rule the very life energy and the rhythms of our existence. Just as we could not exist in our bodies without the act of creation by our biological father and mother, we could not exist as living or spiritual beings without the actions of Surya and Chandra.
Day and Night, Full Moon and New Moon, High Tide and Low Tide, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, all these rhythms and changes happen because of the Sun and Moon. Our calendars are based upon them. In India, the Panchanga or almanac will give the reader instant access to a complex system of division of months and days based upon Jyotish. The full study of Panchanga is not undertaken in ACVA until more advanced levels, but even in the first course of Jyotish Ratna the student is introduced to the wonders and mysteries of the Luminary Grahas and the Moon's cycle. As in our daily lives, this is the paradox of Sun and Moon – so fundamental and yet so subtle.
