Save-A-Turtle Speaks at Big Pine Botanical Society’s March Meeting

In March, Save-A-Turtle of the Florida Keys, Inc. had the honor of being the featured speaker at the Big Pine Botanical Society’s Monthly Meeting. Board Member Jen DeMaria attended and shared valuable insights about the upcoming Keys sea turtle nesting season.

Her presentation covered essential ways everyone can help protect sea turtles, including:

✅ Using turtle-friendly lighting

✅ Volunteering to support conservation efforts

✅ Keeping beaches clear of obstacles and holes

✅ Understanding the global challenges sea turtles face

✅ Learning about the Florida State Wildlife Alert Program

✅ Discovering how Save-A-Turtle is working to safeguard these incredible creatures

As always, Save-A-Turtle is committed to attending community events, spreading awareness, and providing educational outreach whenever possible. A huge thank you to the Big Pine Botanical Society for their long-standing presence in the Keys and for welcoming us to share our mission.

If you’re hosting an event and would like to include a sea turtle presentation or outreach activity, we’d love to be part of it. Email us at President@Save-A-Turtle.org for more information.

WE CAN ALL HELP!

Recent boat strike victim! Red arrow indicates start of strike wound.

It's an all too common occurrence when boats and marine animals meet on the water... boat strikes! Sadly, we receive calls on these occurrences FAR TOO OFTEN.

One way that you can help protect marine life when you’re out enjoying the waterways is to have a designated marine animal spotter on board whenever possible. Somebody that is looking out constantly for the dolphins, manatees and sea turtles that may be found in our waterways.

Additionally, please make sure you’re following slow speed and no wake signs.

If you encounter an injured marine animal while you’re enjoying your boating time or out on the beach in Florida, please call the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922).
