Tips to Keep Your Information Safe When Holiday Shopping Online
As the holiday season approaches, many of us will shop online for gifts. Cybercriminals take advantage of the holidays by creating fake shopping websites and phishing emails to scam shoppers. Examples include fake emails or text messages of shipping and order notifications that are often convincing forgeries. Clicking on these fake websites and texts trick victims into entering a password (yet another reason to use Multi Factor Authentication whenever possible) or installing viruses.

The safest way for shoppers to check their order or shipping status is by going directly to the website where they originally placed their order. Also, be cautious of offers for rewards and gifts. If an offer is too good to be true, it’s probably a scam.

Top 5: What Are You Thankful For?
As we get ready for Thanksgiving break next week, we asked members of Team DPS to share what they are thankful for this year. Check out the Top 5 responses below and here.
5. “This year, I am thankful for my growing family! We were blessed with our sweet, baby boy!” -- Alyssa Mahoney, Marrama Elementary
4. “I am grateful for my paraprofessional, Ms. Shannon Lewis. We work very well together and I love her love toward our students.” -- Diamond Nicholson, Hallett Academy
3. “I'm grateful for a team of teachers who are constantly thinking about expanding our students' worlds through creative activities that inspire curiosity! We have had students baking bread using ratios, walking to the Urban Farm, taking cooking lessons, arranging flowers and so much more. They really bring the joy and curiosity of learning into our school!” -- Jillian Watson, Dora Moore
2. “I am so thankful to be a librarian in a DPS school! This position not only allows me to encourage students to read and become lifelong learners, but I also get to teach curriculum about many different cultures worldwide.” -- Deanna Lowman, Inspire Elementary
1. “I am so grateful for the amazing office staff at DCIS at Ford. We have three wonderful ladies who support our school: Jackie Castillo, Christina Vazquez and Lisseth Castanon (pictured above). They do amazing work and are a joy to work alongside.”
-- Ginger Conroy, DCIS at Ford
New ELCS Schools
Extended Learning and Community Schools (ELCS) is excited to announce that we will be starting partnerships with Godsman, Goldrick and Oakland Elementary Schools to include After School Discovery Link and Enrichment Programming. We anticipate to start programs on Feb. 1, 2023 (pending licensure) and continue into the 2023-24 school year. Currently, we’re in conversations and working with several other DPS schools to bring ELCS programming to more DPS communities. If you would like to learn more about ELCS Programming, contact Jesse Broadfoot.
ECE Update: Important Licensing Update
The Denver Department of Health and Environment transitioned oversight to the Division of Early Learning Licensing and Administration (DELLA) for conducting ECE licensing and health visits. DELLA has consistently cited DPS ECE classrooms for violations regarding, “The time a child arrives and leaves the center each day must be recorded. Staff members must complete written attendance verification periodically throughout the day, including during transitions" (7.7.02.62.A).

For classrooms not already utilizing a system, we recommend referring to the resources for Face to Name, which can be found on page 28 of the ECE Handbook. A video is also available in the Early Education Department Resource Library titled ECE Name to Face Procedures, which details best practices.

ECE Update: Early Childhood Educator Income Tax Credit Information
In 2022, the Colorado Legislature passed and the Governor signed House Bill 22-1010, which created what is known as a refundable income tax credit for credentialed early childhood educators. Early childhood educators who hold an active PDIS Early Childhood Credential (ECPC) in either Version 2.0 or 3.0 qualify for the tax credit. Qualifying individuals will be awarded a tax credit amount based on the highest credential level held during the 2022 calendar year.

The DPS Early Education Department is sharing this information for your reference but is not managing this opportunity. Any interested ECE staff should reference this email for more information and contact the Colorado Department of Early Childhood with any questions.

Living Our DPS Honoree
Erin Mulcahy
Teacher/Senior Team Lead, College View Elementary
Collaboration

"Erin took her own coaching/planning time for an entire week to support me in my classroom as a new teacher who is still learning how to navigate challenging behaviors. She facilitated our family meetings, supported with holding students accountable and encouraged me as I was beginning to become very hard on myself due to student behaviors. I felt so much more comfortable and successful after a week of her support, and our classroom has been much more peaceful and productive as a result of her leadership."
