From APC's President

What YOU DO matters

Have you stopped and thought about what you do every day?

I mean for your patients. I encourage you to take a moment and really think about them. (This is not just a challenge for pharmacists; I'm asking technicians, too.)

Think about the child who would likely die without the mitochondrial cocktail you make. Think about the marriage you saved because you helped the spouse achieve hormonal balance. And the hospice patient for whom your compounded medication brings comfort. Think about the family pet that you helped bring back to health.

YOU are to be celebrated: Your patients’ lives and your community are so much better because of you and your efforts. When I reflect on how we have helped our patients, I get very emotional—and so should you. It’s righteous work.

With all you do on a day-to-day basis, you don’t always have time to focus on the things that ensure the long-term viability of our profession and your ability to keep on helping your patients. This is where APC comes in. Over my tenure as president this year, I have seen first-hand how APC’s got your back, including:

APC’s got your back and fights tirelessly to protect your ability to serve your patients so you can focus on continuing to help them live healthy and productive lives. That’s no small thing when you think about it.

This week

Compounding Advocacy Day is THURSDAY

Here's what you can do for your profession

This coming Thursday, September 15—the same day as our Congressional visits in DC—is Compounding Advocacy Day. While your colleagues are visiting in person with members of Congress as part of Compounders on Capitol Hill, you and your team members can still advocate from afar.

We’re asking you to do a couple of things on Thursday, and we’re going to make it really easy for you by providing the messaging.

All you have to do is go to www.a4pc.org/advocacyday that morning to do the following two things:

1) Throughout the day, post our four pre-drafted messages on your PERSONAL and PHARMACY social media accounts. We’re talking Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. On Twitter, be sure and tag your members of Congress (all three of them: two U.S. Senators, one U.S. Representative).

2) Send a customized message to your members of Congress, urging them to take action on the three priority issues we’re focused on:

  • Preserving patient access to compounded hormone therapy.
  • Requesting clarity—and an enforcement extension—in FDA’s GFI 256, regarding animal compounding.
  • Authorizing compounders to help fill supply chain gaps when essential drugs are in shortage.

The webpage with social media posts and the link to send your message to Congress goes live at 5pm EDT this Wednesday, Sept. 14. For now, alert your teammates, and plan to participate!

NEW Prescriber Brief:

Prescription compliance

APC-Prescriber-Briefing_Prescription-Compliance_Sept-2022_Page_1-scaled image

To help you educate your prescribers, APC and the Pharmacy Compounding Foundation have developed three member-only briefing documents you can share with physicians and other medical professionals.

Our newest one, Prescription Compliance: DEA’s “Wet Signature” Requirement, explains how the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) “wet signature” requirement applies to electronic prescriptions for controlled substances.

The APC and PCF logos give credibility to the documents, and both are designed so you can add your pharmacy logo as well.

You can find all of the briefing papers here and share them with the physician offices you or your sales reps visit. (Note: It’s an APC member-only tool, so you’ll need your login and password to access it.)

Check out PCF’s support for the cBHT campaign in Politico

Thanks to generous support from the Pharmacy Compounding Foundation, our Campaign to Save Compounded Hormones is being featured in Politico.com.

The sponsored content will run through next month and focuses on making policymakers aware of the threat. Take a look and then please give to help save compounded hormones.
