We are often not aware of what we think, feel, and sense before we act. Our eyes look out, not in. So when you are aware, you can choose what to do with what you feel. This week, we introduce the Urge Monster (the cost of avoiding triggers). Avoiding triggers is like playing a tug of war. Every time you respond to the urge by lighting up, having a drink, or eating a cookie, you are giving into the monster. When the monster comes back, you pull and pull again and the monster pulls back. What are the costs? Time, energy, losing your anchors, getting away from what matters. It's hard to fight a war with a monster while trying to be a loving, giving, and caring person.
