Washington’s Spring 2026 Hospital Safety Grades Are In. Here’s What They Tell Us.

Leapfrog released its Spring 2026 Hospital Safety Grades this week, giving patients, employers, and healthcare purchasers across Washington a fresh look at how local hospitals perform on patient safety.

In this latest round of grading, eight Washington hospitals earned an A on Leapfrog’s Spring 2026 Hospital Safety Grade. Twelve earned a B. Twenty earned a C. Zero earned a D or an F. Seven hospitals did not receive grades.

Washington landed at 40th on Leapfrog’s national state ranking for percentage of hospitals receiving an A grade, down from 31st in the fall cycle.

From Cost Center to Strategic Asset: What Leading Employers Are Doing Differently

Washington employers are learning that health care affordability is not a procurement problem. It is a design problem. The employers getting it right have invested in advanced primary care, navigation that connects employees to high-value providers, and integrated care that treats the whole person. The result is a more sustainable benefits strategy and a healthier workforce.

On May 13, WHA's Beyond the Bottom Line event brings together the employers, clinicians, and data leaders doing this work. Castlight Health will be part of the conversation. Read the full post, catch up on part one and part two, then Join the Waitlist.

ICYMI: We Looked At Top Quality Perfomers and Here are the Clinics that Set the Bar.

The Community Checkup 2026 recognizes the top-performing clinics in Washington for six clinical quality measures, and this year's honorees set a high bar.

These measures matter because they target care that prevents serious disease, catches illness early, and avoids unnecessary costs. When clinics perform well here, patients benefit directly.

The clinics recognized in this year's report prove that high performance is achievable across very different practice settings: urban and rural, large health systems and community health centers, commercial and Medicaid populations

These state averages still have room to grow, and that's the point. WHA publishes this data to celebrate leaders and give every clinic a clear picture of where they stand. Progress happens when we can all see it.

Welcome, Washington Counties Insurance Fund

WHA is pleased to welcome Washington Counties Insurance Fund (WCIF) as our newest member. Established in 1958, WCIF is a public non-profit trust serving Washington's local governments and publicly-funded nonprofits — providing health and welfare benefits to small and mid-size public employers who want big-employer-quality plans without the complexity.

As for why they joined: WCIF sees WHA membership as an opportunity to engage more deeply with the broader healthcare community in Washington state — and we're glad to have them at the table.
