District 2 Park in Honor of Commissioner Gail Hambrick
The Clayton County Board of Commissioners surprised one of its own during the regular business meeting on Tues., Sept. 15, 2026, by officially naming the new District 2 Pocket Park in honor of Commissioner Gail Hambrick. She is in her fourth term as the District 2 Commissioner.
The Gail B. Hambrick Park, 1740 Flat Shoals Road, Atlanta, Ga., 30349, is under construction. Features include a dog park, playground, pavilion, open multipurpose area, and space for two mobile medical units. It is set to open later this year.
“Thank you all so very much,” stated District 2 Commissioner Gail Hambrick.
She has served as a member of the Board of Commissioners since January 2009.
As stated in Resolution 2026-211, the construction and completion of the District 2 Pocket Park was due in substantial part to Commissioner Hambrick’s longstanding efforts to provide recreational and safe spaces for the county’s children and seniors and to educate them of the potential benefits of quality and community space.
The Board of Commissioners deems it in the best interest of Clayton County, and the county will best be served by naming the District 2 Park to the Gail B. Hambrick Park.
There are four new pocket parks in the works, one in each district, which are currently under construction. Each pocket park will provide residents space for exercise, outdoor activity, and community engagement. In addition, the pocket parks give Clayton County Fire & Emergency Services Mobile Clinics a designated location to offer rotating medical screenings and health information.
The pocket parks are funded by a grant from the State of Georgia and Clayton County’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
For more information on SPLOST Progress for Pennies, or to view current SPLOST projects, visit www.claytonsplost.com.
Since 2004, the Clayton County Board of Commissioners has used the one-cent SPLOST for countywide improvements. The Clayton County SPLOST helps move the county forward by funding capital improvements within infrastructure, public safety, buildings, technology, and overall quality of life.

Give People Energy
“Psychologist Henry H. Goddard conducted a study on energy levels in children using an instrument he called the ‘ergograph.’ His findings are fascinating. He discovered that when tired children were given a word of praise or commendation, the ergograph showed an immediate upward surge of energy in the children. When the children were criticized or discouraged, the ergograph showed that their physical energy took a sudden nosedive.
You may have already discovered this intuitively. When someone praises you, doesn’t your energy level go up? And when you are criticized, doesn’t that comment drag you down? Words have great power.
What kind of environment do you think you could create if you continually affirmed people when you first came into contact with them? Not only would you encourage them, but you would also become an energy carrier. Whenever you walked into a room, the people would light up! You would help to create the kind of environment everyone loves. Just your presence alone would brighten people’s days” (John C. Maxwell, The Maxwell Daily Reader).
Do something today to create an environment of affirmation.
Have an fantastic week.
