PARALYMPIC ATHLETE INSPIRES SIXTH GRADERS WITH A VISIT
Sixth grade students were treated to an enlightening Q&A session with Steve Ferreira, the founder of Beyond Disabilities and a distinguished Paralympic athlete, as well as a featured speaker at TEDxLBS 2022. Steve, who thrives with cerebral palsy and relies on a wheelchair for mobility, made a special trip to Santa Barbara to coincide with the launch of the sixth grade novel, "Out of My Mind." This novel offers a unique perspective, narrated by a nonverbal elementary school student with cerebral palsy. Steve's visit served as the perfect introduction to the unit on empathy and perspective-taking, leaving a lasting impact on the sixth graders and shattering stereotypes.
