MAKING A DIFFERENCE
ARELY CASTELLÓN COX
| |
On Saturday, October 24, St. Gregory's will give thanks for the life of Arely Castellón Cox, a beloved member of our church family; wife of Henricus Cox; mother of Jacqueline and her husband, Alex, and Cristina; and grandmother of Maxwell and Wesley.
Arely served on the Vestry of St. Gregory's and was the visionary leader of our Progressive Dinner ministry for many years. Through this ministry, she not only helped raise funds for the church but also fostered meaningful relationships among parish members. She also served as coordinator of our annual HollyVersary Gala.
Arely exercised her leadership with true grace, and her joyful, engaging spirit blessed this congregation profoundly. The prayers of the parish family are extended to Henricus and the entire Cox family as they mourn her loss and give thanks for her life.
In their eloquent obituary, the family wrote words that so perfectly capture Arely's impact on all who knew her:
“To know Arely was to know a woman of extraordinary warmth, elegance, intelligence, and strength. She had a rare ability to make everyone she encountered feel genuinely seen and valued. Her signature greeting, ‘How are you, my dear?’ was never merely a pleasantry. She asked because she truly cared, and those fortunate enough to know her felt it.
Arely lived a life marked by achievement, adventure, grace, generosity, and, above all, love. Her presence was unforgettable, and the absence she leaves behind is immeasurable.”
Well done, good and faithful servant. Thank you for the lasting impact you made on our life together in Christ at St. Gregory's. May you rest in peace and rise in glory.
In Christ,
Fr. Andrew+

A MESSAGE FROM THE TREASURER
St. Gregory’s 9-month 2026 Financial Results
Our results for the 9 months ending September 30th were mixed. Total Unrestricted revenue was $1,218,004. This was $38k below plan. The shortfall was almost entirely due to both Pledges and Plate being below plan. On the expense side, we were $29k over budget, primarily due to utilities and repairs. As previously noted, utilities are over plan due to the continued delay in getting our solar project online. We now expect to have this operational around December 1st.
| |
As a result of the above, our actual excess of revenues over expenditures is $15k year to date, which is almost $100k below plan. Our full-year plan is slightly better than break-even. We can achieve this plan if both Pledges and Plate come in at plan. Your continued support of St. Gregory’s is a blessing and allows us to continue our wonderful ministries.
St. Gregory’s leadership team has started the 2027 budgeting process. Your faithful stewardship allows us to responsibly plan for the church’s 2027 activities. We expect 2027 to be a challenging year, with prices for items like repairs, maintenance contracts, and supplies all trending higher. Our pledge goal for 2027 is $1.2M, which is 8% higher than 2026. Please keep this in mind when you complete your 2027 pledge.
I want to thank all of our parishioners for their continued support of St. Gregory’s and its ministries.
Blessings,
Gary W. Paris
Treasurer

A MESSAGE FROM TIM
This Sunday, we welcome Mr. Michael Murray as our Guest Organist and Choral Director, as I will be on a performance tour in Newnan, GA.
At the 10 am service this Sunday will be the Offertory Anthem O How Amiable, which was composed by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) in 1934 for the Abinger Pageant, a fundraiser for the parish of St. James Church, Abinger Common, Surrey, just south of London, where Vaughan Williams spent his childhood. The pageant was designed to celebrate local heritage and raise funds for the church with it’s stated aim of “showing continuity of country life”. Utilizing Psalms 84 and 90, Vaughan Williams incorporated the hymn tune St. Anne (William Croft, 1678-1727), weaving variations of the melody throughout and ending the anthem triumphantly with the first verse of “O God our Help in Ages Past” by Isaac Watts (1674-1748), set to the tune, St. Anne. We will close the service singing all verses of Watts’ famous hymn, which is a paraphrase of Psalm 90, sung to the tune, St. Anne.
As we continue our Spotlight on the Choir, we feature two members of our volunteer members, Helen DiNetta and Noah Torres. Helen has been a member for several years and Noah recently joined this season. It is such a joy and privilege to work with these and all of our choir every week!
I’ll miss everyone this weekend but I’ll see you October 30 for Phantom of the Opera! 7 PM!! I’ll be playing an original, improvised score to the 1925 silent film starring Lon Chaney. Wear your favorite Halloween Costume! Pre-show music will be provided by Aziz Sapaev, cellist, who will be playing some SPOOKY music prior to the show!
Blessings,
Tim

SPOTLIGHT ON
THE CHOIR OF ST. GREGORY’S
We continue our spotlight on members of the choir this week as we highlight two of our volunteer members, Helen DiNetta and Noah Torres. Helen has been a member for several years, and Noah recently joined this season.
| | |
HELEN DINETTA
Born in the Netherlands and raised in Connecticut, Helen has enjoyed a lifelong love of music, beginning with the clarinet and later singing in her high school chorus. After college, she moved to New Jersey, where she sang for 25 years in the choir at St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church, performing in services, concerts, and international tours throughout Europe.
After moving to Boca Raton in 2014, Helen found a musical and spiritual home at St. Gregory’s, joining the choir and becoming a parishioner in 2018. She also sang with Nova Singers in Fort Lauderdale, performing at Carnegie Hall and in Europe.
For Helen, singing in the church choir is first and foremost a ministry to the congregation. It also brings her great spiritual joy and provides a wonderful sense of community through a shared purpose and love of music.
| | |
NOAH TORRES
Noah is from St. Cloud, Florida and has been playing piano since he was 6 years old. Having played many instruments such as cello and percussion, Noah began singing in his high school and church choir. He currently plays percussion for the Florida Atlantic University Wind Ensemble and continues his studies in urban design.
Noah says, “I like singing at St. Gregory's because it gives me an opportunity to do something in music besides just piano and percussion, and also I love to be able to sing classical works of music.”

RESERVING ALTAR FLOWERS
TO HONOR A LOVED ONE
OR SPECIAL OCCASION
| |
Each Sunday, as we walk into the church, we are greeted by the beauty of our surroundings. In addition to our newly remodeled space, we now have stunning frontals for each church season, enhancing our worship environment. The flowers at the altar further enrich our worship experience. Sponsoring altar flowers on any given Sunday is a meaningful way to honor a loved one on their birthday, celebrate an anniversary, or pay tribute to someone special. The cost to sponsor flowers is $300. Your generous donation helps offset the cost of the flowers, and when multiple families sponsor together, the cost may be shared. The flowers serve as a beautiful and lasting expression of love and remembrance.
To learn more or to get the process started, please email the church office at office@st-gregorys.com.

Confirmation Class meets every Sunday at 9:10 am
during the school year in the Conference Room (unless otherwise noted).

All young people in grades 6, 7, and 8 can participate in and benefit from this class, regardless of whether or not they choose to be confirmed. Older teens, those transferring from other churches, or any others who are interested are most welcome to participate as well.
During Confirmation, we explore:
-- The Bible and the stories that shape our life and faith
-- A life of prayer and worship led by and replenished by the Holy Spirit

On Sunday, Oct 18, we gathered for a combined session of Confirmation Class and Upper Room Time for a conversation about prayer. We explored why and how we pray as well as the idea of praying with the saints. Working in small groups we drafted the Prayers of the People that will be offered during our All Saints Day 10 am worship service.
