Bin Lin

Councilor of IATDMCT

Bridging Practice and Innovation: My Journey with TDM and Clinical Toxicology

As a Councillor of IATDMCT and Vice Chair of the Regional Asia Pacific Section (RAPS), I am currently serving at the intersection of clinical pharmacy, therapeutic drug monitoring, and hospital management to advance patient care at the grassroots level.

I serve as Director of the Pharmacy Department at Changxing People's Hospital in Zhejiang Province, China. I am also Executive Director of the Huzhou Key Laboratory of Intelligent Pharmacy and Individualized Therapy, and an A/Professor in Evidence Based Medicine at Huzhou Normal University. My journey in TDM and clinical pharmacy began with specialized training as a clinical pharmacist in anti-infective therapy, and over the years I have built a career centered on bringing precision dosing and advanced analytical services to a primary hospital setting.

My IATDMCT journey

My relationship with IATDMCT began when I recognized the need to connect our frontline practice with the global scientific community. What started as a desire to learn from international experts soon became something much more meaningful. IATDMCT has become a professional home—a community that continually challenges and inspires me to grow both scientifically and professionally.

In 2024, I had the privilege of becoming a founding member of IATDMCT-RAPS, serving as the only representative from mainland China on the inaugural 12-member committee. This was a much-awaited development designed to strengthen engagement, collaboration, and education across the Asia-Pacific region. Since then, it has been incredibly rewarding to help shape the Section's mission and to co-moderate our webinar series, bringing together colleagues from Singapore, India, Bhutan, Oman, and beyond to share frontline experience in TDM guideline implementation, monoclonal antibody monitoring, and antimicrobial stewardship. These experiences have reinforced my belief in the value of building connections that allow knowledge, experience, and best practices to flow across regions.

My work and research

At Changxing People's Hospital, I have focused on demonstrating that high-quality TDM and clinical toxicology need not be confined to large academic centers. Under my leadership, the pharmacy department has established a regional TDM center, developed more than fifty TDM assays using LC-MS/MS.

My research focuses on the personalized use of anti-infective agents in critically ill patients, particularly dose optimization during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support. My team and I have developed and validated sensitive UPLC-MS/MS methods for simultaneous quantification of antiviral and antibiotic agents, including nirmatrelvir/ritonavir and linezolid. Our work on population pharmacokinetic modeling of linezolid in postoperative neurosurgical patients—presented as an oral communication at the 2025 Regional Asia-Pacific TDM Congress in Penang—provided a new paradigm for individualized dosing in central nervous system infections. I also had the privilege of leading the development of an expert consensus on linezolid TDM and individualized dosing, published in Frontiers in Public Health.

A message to our members

To my fellow members, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your continued engagement and contributions. TDM and clinical toxicology are not merely laboratory services—they are bridges between science and the bedside. Whether you are working in a large academic center or a primary hospital, our shared responsibility is to turn concentration data into better decisions for the patient in front of us.

I encourage all members, especially young pharmacists and scientists from underrepresented regions, to remain actively involved, seek opportunities to contribute, and share your frontline stories. IATDMCT thrives through the collective contributions of its members, and each of us has an important role to play. I would also encourage you to serve as ambassadors for IATDMCT by inspiring colleagues and trainees to become part of our community. Membership growth is not simply about increasing numbers; it is about expanding our collective expertise, strengthening our global voice, and creating new opportunities for collaboration, learning, and innovation.

Together, we can continue advancing the science and practice of therapeutic drug monitoring and clinical toxicology, ensuring that IATDMCT remains a vibrant and influential international community for years to come.

IATDMCT Podcast: Eight Drugs a Week Episode 20 – Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds: Keeping up with New Psychoactive Substances

For this episode we will take a slightly different trip - one that takes us into the rapidly changing world of new psychoactive drugs. From synthetic cannabinoids and novel stimulants, to designer benzodiazepines and emerging psychedelics, the landscape is constantly evolving. New molecules appear faster than we can sometimes characterise them, creating major challenges for clinicians, toxicologists, laboratories and regulators. So, how can we detect these entities when we may not even know what we are looking for? And what can pharmacology and toxicology tell us about their clinical effects and their risks?

In this episode, we are joined by Souleiman El Balkhi and Richard Kevin, who walk us through what it takes to make sense of the vast NPS terrain.

IATDMCT Congress 2026 – Rennes, France, September 27 – 30

Precision medicine: moving from legend to reality

The Rennes pharmacology team is delighted to welcome you to the joint congress of the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology (IATDMCT) and the French Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (SFPT). These two eminent learning societies are joining forces for the first time in France to foster knowledge in precision medicine and promote research on drugs.

During four days, Rennes will be the capital of pharmacology, therapeutics, and clinical toxicology. In the heart of the city, the Couvent des Jacobins. Formerly a religious site, then a educational place and finally a military centre, it now plays a central role in the sharing of culture and knowledge. While retaining its historical roots, this site is now firmly focused on the future!

It is in keeping with this spirit that we will meet next September. Bringing together pharmacologists, toxicologists and clinicians with their expertise in medical drugs, we will turn the attractive promise of precision medicine into a clinical reality.

We are very excited to share all this knowledge and look forward to seeing many of you in Rennes!

Please, disseminate the unique scientific event within your professional and scientific networks!
