U.S. RevPAR -0.2% y/y last week; Headwinds from winter storm and difficult y/y Mardi Gras comp | |
As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was -0.2% y/y for the week ending 2/28/2026, per STR/CoStar, the prior week's result of +6.2% y/y and the 10-week average of +0.7% y/y. Last week's results were soft overall as expected, impacted by Winter Storm Hernando which led to more than 10k flight cancellations early in the week. An additional headwind was the difficult y/y Mardi Gras comp (New Orleans -33.7% y/y). Despite the softness overall, modest growth in Occupancy in Midscale and Economy segments, the fourth and fifth consecutive weeks of positive Occupancy growth respectively, remains a bright spot. The last time Economy Occupancy growth saw a longer consecutive streak was Oct. '24. Upscale RevPAR: +0.5% y/y; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +0.8% y/y."
