Bottom Line Up Front

JNIIM.Congregation.03-June-2022.jpeg

Over the past month, Mali has been on the precipice of a world-war scale conflict, as forces have been coalescing on all sides of a potentially devastating war between Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM), the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) and Islamic State Greater Sahara (ISGS).

In January 2022, JNIM turned against the Azawad militias, particularly National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) operating under Petit Thefar and shortly thereafter, JNIM fighters began attacking MNLA in the area of Tin Tachori in the Gao region of Mali. According to ISGS supporters on social media at that time, JNIM’s strategy is to gain control over MNLA, to then join forces against ISGS.

However, in mid-May, eyewitness accounts reported that ISGS fighters crossed the Niger border into the Gao region of Mali, for a purported ISGS leadership meeting in Sorori, also in the Gao area. This Sorori meeting was likely about the strategy behind combatting MNLA and JNIM at the hotly contested, water rich, border region of Niger and Mali. In the Sahel, water is worth much more than its weight in gold, controlling water sources means control over the area.

By early June 2022, MNLA and some of the group's allies met, likely to discuss and amass a significant build-up of forces to combat both JNIM and ISGS. TRAC sources on the ground reported that JNIM Commanders were expecting a large shipment of arms from Libya on 03 June and that 50 fighters from Sudan to Libya, as well as from Nigeria, have come to Mali for the battle with MNLA and presumably, by extension, JNIM. A day later, JNIM released photos of hundreds of fighters on motorcycles and gun trucks (pictured above), taken in the Menaka region of Mali, which borders Burkina Faso and seems to be a staging ground.

This three-way conflict could easily and quickly turn into a bloodbath on all sides with countless civilians caught in the middle. If this conflict transpires between these three groups it is certain to crumble the fragile state of Mali.

Eco-Fascist Stochastic Memes Advocating Crop Burning on

Agro-Industrial Farm Industry and Attacks on Politicians

in the United States

Over the summer of 2019, Islamic State Central Command conducted a “Hot Summer” by burning crops of farmers who didn’t support IS in Syria and Iraq. In 2022, it appears that they are reviving the campaign with the latest 31 May 2022 arson attacks on farms in Kirkuk, Iraq.

Racists, especially eco-fascists, have been coopting jihadist concepts for at least the past year. On 23 April 2022, Eco-fascists seemed to have taken a specific page out the Islamic State tactical handbook and began campaigning and advocating arson attacks on the industrial agricultural industry through memes.

It is important to note that this propaganda represents yet another topical convergence between the extreme far left and the extreme far right – a mutual hatred for the agro-industrial farm industry. In March 2022, an extreme far left group in France recently took on the agro-industrial farming industry and brought their message into the real world beyond mere propaganda by attacking a large poultry factory in Brittany and destroying wheat destined for feeding the chickens. This same far-left group is advertising a ‘Militant Mobilization’ for Saturday 11 June 2022, which TRAC will be monitoring.

On 07 June 2022, Indian intelligence services shot down a drone crossing from Pakistan into Jammu & Kashmir territories. The drone carried three IEDs hidden in children’s food containers and all three IEDs were successfully defused. The IEDs were likely heading to one of Jammu & Kashmir freedom fighter groups to be used in future attacks. This is also the second drone gunned down by the Indian forces in a week. Considering the upcoming Amarnath Pilgrimage, it is likely that the militants are re-supplying themselves to disrupt the pilgrimage for Hindu worshippers.

Since October 2021, TRAC has noted the online proliferation by eco-fascists of hit lists targeting a variety of public officials, including judges. On 3 June, 2022, the police arrived at the home of retired Judge John Roemer, finding the judge deceased. Douglas K. Uhde, 56, was identified as the shooter and police attempted to negotiate with Uhde but he was later found in the basement, critically wounded with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. As of 07 June 2022, Douglas K. Uhde was removed from life support and died in the hospital. Uhde was known to law enforcement authorities because in November 2005, he was sentenced by Judge Roemer to six years in state prison on an armed burglary conviction, according to court records. Although some reports claim that Uhde was a militia member, as of now, there are no known associations of memberships with any militia groups. Additionally, it should be noted that on Uhde's person was a hit list that listed Judge Roemer as well as other public officials like Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
