Pastor Glen's focus for his message for

this upcoming weekend:

Here on the high mountaintop, surely the disciples think, “This is what we have been waiting for.” Proof that we have been following the right guy. Glory and Majesty and everything that you do religion for. And then Jesus says, “Tell no one.” Religious people are all about glory, but for followers of Jesus glory looks like a cross. Glory is found in the often unpleasant, tasks of what daily life. We get impatient with life, we get impatient with God. But he promises us that in our incarnate reality, like in the person of Jesus, is all the glory we need.

Social Concerns Committee:

Our 11th Annual "Have a Heart for Hunger" campaign is going strong! Our special collection day at Family Fare on Saturday, February 11th for the community yielded 564 pounds of food, and $511.80 in cash. At FLC we took in l85 pounds of food over the weekend. That, added to last week's intake, equals 825 pounds of food! Way to go, FLC!  Let's keep up the good work this coming weekend! What a wonderful boost this will be for our neighbors in need! Remember that the theme for this year's ingathering is all things relating to soups---and cash is always welcome, as the Food Pantry can make the money stretch further than we can!

First Lutheran Church will be staffing the Washington County Recycling Center on Saturday, February 25.  If you are able to help with this important community service please sign up on the Volunteer Sheet at the Welcome Center. You may sign up for the 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. shift or the l0:00 to Noon shift--or for the entire morning! This is a great way to help care for the environment God gave us for which we are to be stewards.

Ash Wednesday Worship

Wednesday, February 22nd

The word “Lent” means spring, and like that season it is a time for preparation and planting. In the ancient church it was a season of catechism as newcomers to the community prepared for their baptism. For us it is a 40 day opportunity to renew and refocus our spiritual life in preparation for the day of resurrection. It begins on a day that we call Ash Wednesday, where we are reminded that in faith our life begins in surrender to the God who created us.

All good journeys begin by taking the right first step. Let us plant ourselves firmly on the path that leads to new life.

SCAM ALERT

Scammers are pretending to be a pastor, rabbi, priest, imam, or bishop. They’re asking worshipers for gift card contributions for a worthy cause.

These appeals are fraudulent. If you receive a phone call, text, or email asking for amazon gift cards, itunes, etc. Feel free to contact the church office to verify. Do not share any personal details.

If you or someone you know paid a scammer with a gift card, report it as soon as possible. Call the card company and tell them the gift card was used in a scam. Here is contact information for some of the gift card companies that scammers use most often. Then, tell the FTC about it at ftc.gov/complaint. Your reports may help law enforcement agencies launch investigations that could stop imposters and other fraudsters in their tracks.

Choir News

Did you know...

Singing in a choir builds community. When we sing, we are joined together in a common voice. Whether it's as simple as "Happy Birthday" or as complex as the Hallelujah Chorus, each of our voices matters to the whole. When we come together to sing, we are lifted up and supported by those around us.

The FLC choir rehearses Tuesdays, at 6:30 pm, upstairs in the choir room. Regular attendance is encouraged, but you are welcome to join even if you cannot be at rehearsal every week. For more information and questions, contact Vince, at vkrysl@firstlutheranblair.org.

Come, make a joyful noise!
