Full Circle: The Infinite Life of Recycled Glass

Lights, camera, action!

Spectrum News 1 recently featured NOIC, along with Recycle Services and Owens Corning, to highlight the progress of our local glass recycling initiative and the infinite recyclability of glass. In just over a year of operation, Glass Recycling in Toledo (GRIT) has collected 286 tons of glass—the equivalent of 860,000 glass bottles diverted from landfills!

The news feature showcased how GRIT has evolved into a thriving circular economy, noting that glass recycling is a rare situation where what’s good for manufacturers and what’s best for the environment actually align.

With six GRIT bins located around the Toledo area and 18 bars and restaurants now participating in the GRIT program, recycled glass tonnage is steadily climbing each month. Plans for several additional GRIT collection sites are currently in the works. The program is also undergoing a rebranding effort which will change the name to Glass Recycling in Town ahead of regional expansion.
