Greetings!

Even during the long nights and cold days of winter, the Epiphany season invites us to recognize the depth of community possible in facing challenges together, receiving one another as blessings, and celebrating joy in unexpected places.

This past month, Holden Village welcomed students from Pacific Lutheran University and Wartburg Seminary for “January Term” classes. Together they studied vocation, considered what it means to lead a life that matters, and were welcomed into community with Villagers while participating in the daily rhythms of caring for one another and this place.

We hope you, too find renewal in this season. Join us in practicing our faith, honoring our bodies, and claiming moments of hilarity and joy wherever possible.

Faithfully,
Stacy Kitahata, Mark Bach, and Kathie Bach

Practicing Our Faith
As the snow piles up and darkness consumes most of the day, there is a desire to go deep. Deep with one another, deep with God, deep with ourselves. In response to this craving for depth, Holden's Worship Team invites you to join the Village in the inspired monthly series Practicing Our Faith. Join us each month as we explore a new theme in relation to justice and worship.

January's theme is Honoring Our Bodies. Christians look to Jesus’s resurrected body as a theological foundation for the value of caring for our bodies. This month we invite you to honor your body through embodied practices as well as critical thinking,

We invite you into an attitude of acceptance over striving-to-be-different, of loving your own body exactly as it is. As the Psalmist reminds us: we are wonderfully made, and as Karen Drucker writes, “How could anyone ever tell you, you are anything less than beautiful?”
This month we invite you to explore these body-loving practices:
  • Bathing
  • Taking naps
  • Eating in a way that honors your body
  • Moving your body
