A political action committee supporting the University of California

Greetings,

Friends of the UC Reacts to May Budget Revision

The Governor’s recently released 2026–27 May Budget Revision proposes a complex financial balancing act for public higher education during an exceedingly precarious time.

We greatly appreciate the state’s continued commitment to the UC system and public higher education. However, deferring $400 million in promised compact funding again to the 2027–28 budget cycle poses a distinct challenge to the university, especially amidst federal uncertainty. The compact is a strategic, multi-year agreement between the Governor, Legislature, and UC system that secures increases in state financial support in exchange for expanded enrollment of California residents, among multiple other student-focused goals.

Since its creation four years ago, the UC has enrolled nearly 15,000 additional California full-time undergraduates, reduced non-resident enrollment, and exceeded compact targets every academic year. However, sustaining student services and support requires predictable, ongoing State investment. Funding is critical to ensure a high-quality and affordable education for all students.

We are happy to answer questions. Thank you for honoring the compact and making UC a priority.

Fiat Lux,

Friends of the University
