A Note from the CEO & Co-Founder

As we move into a new season, I am excited about the many opportunities ahead for the Women of Prince George’s community.

Our Educational Modules Partner Events are in full swing, bringing valuable training, workshops, and seminars to support women in business, leadership, and professional growth. Through our partnerships with organizations including FSC First, the Maryland Women’s Business Center, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and our upcoming LinkedIn workshop series with FSC First, we are pleased to connect our community with practical resources and learning opportunities throughout the season.

You can find these upcoming educational events, along with additional program information, on the Events page of our website.

Behind the scenes, we are also hard at work preparing for our upcoming signature events, including securing speakers, developing programming, and building the partnerships that help make these experiences possible.

An important part of bringing these events to life is the support of our sponsors. Sponsorship allows us to create meaningful programming, provide valuable resources, and continue building spaces where women can connect, learn, and grow. We are deeply appreciative of the businesses and organizations that choose to invest in this work and in the women we serve.

If your organization is interested in becoming a sponsor or vendor for one of our upcoming signature events, we would be delighted to hear from you and explore how you can join the Women of Prince George’s community.

There is much more ahead, and we look forward to sharing it with you as the season unfolds.

With gratitude and purpose,

Stephanie Bolton James

Small Business of the Month

Dr. Nekia Staley-Neither

Owner | Dental Coach & Business Consulting

Special Care Dentistry

Small Business Spotlight

For more than 22 years, Dr. Nekia Staley-Neither has served Prince George’s County and the surrounding DMV community through dentistry, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and community leadership. As the owner of Special Care Dentistry, she has built a practice centered on compassionate, comprehensive care, with a particular focus on patients who may require additional time, patience, understanding, and individualized support.

Her work extends far beyond the dental chair. Dr. Staley-Neither also provides dental coaching and business consulting, helping dentists and women entrepreneurs strengthen their leadership, improve business performance, grow their practices, and make sound financial and strategic decisions. Drawing from her own experience in practice ownership and entrepreneurship, she helps others navigate the realities of building sustainable businesses while balancing professional and personal responsibilities.

Community impact is also central to her work. Through Special Care Dentistry’s annual Community Day Health Fair, Dr. Staley-Neither and her team provide free dental services while connecting individuals and families with healthcare, financial, employment, and community resources. For her, entrepreneurship is not simply about business growth; it is about creating healthier families, stronger businesses, and stronger communities.

As she becomes more involved with Women of Prince George’s, Dr. Staley-Neither is looking forward to building relationships with other women business owners, professionals, and community leaders. She values spaces where women can collaborate, learn from one another, mentor one another, and create meaningful professional connections.

Looking ahead, her focus remains on growth, mentorship, access, and impact. She plans to continue expanding Special Care Dentistry, increasing access to specialized dental care, strengthening community partnerships, and growing her women’s dental and business consulting work nationally. She also hopes to create more opportunities in Prince George’s County through mentorship, entrepreneurship, leadership development, and community initiatives.

Dr. Staley-Neither says doing business in Prince George’s County has reinforced two qualities in particular: resilience and relationship-building. She credits the community with teaching her the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and the value of meaningful relationships with patients, businesses, organizations, professionals, and fellow entrepreneurs.

She remains proud to serve Prince George’s County and committed to using her experience not only to grow her own businesses, but also to support women, develop future leaders, and give back to the community that has supported her journey.

Entrepreneur Tip of the Month

Market Research

Key Tips: Market Research: Take time to understand the market before making major business or marketing decisions. Study your competitors to see what they offer and where gaps may exist, clearly define the customers you are trying to reach, and talk to or survey potential buyers to understand their needs and priorities. Most importantly, validate that there is real demand for your product or service before investing significant time and money. Good market research helps you make informed decisions based on what customers actually need—not assumptions.

Business Dilemma Scenario

A Business Dilemma: Scenario for Group Exercise

Every month, we present a realistic workplace challenge. After reading it aloud, have participants discuss:

  • What’s the core issue?
  • What are the possible actions?
  • What are the risks and consequences?
  • What would they do and why?

The Late Paying Customer

A major customer is more than 60 days past due on several invoices but continues to request new work. The revenue is important to the business, and the owner fears that pausing services could permanently damage the relationship.

_______

💬 Discussion Prompt: How long should a business continue working with a client who consistently pays late? At what point does protecting the relationship begin to hurt cash flow, and how can clear payment policies be enforced fairly and consistently without damaging the client relationship?

🧠 Suggested Answer to Business Dilemma Scenario

Answer: Communicate directly with the customer and establish a written payment arrangement. Consider pausing additional work until a portion of the balance is paid. The business should also strengthen its payment policies by requiring deposits, milestone payments, late fees, or automated billing.
