APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

Imagine a community that focuses on Prevention!

Join Family Building Blocks this April in celebrating the Power of Prevention! We encourage you to join us in supporting organizations and community efforts focused on strengthening families to prevent child abuse and neglect. The perennial “Blue Ribbon Tree” is located in Riverfront Park, with 1,090 ribbon clusters representing 11,090 confirmed victims of child abuse or neglect in Oregon in 2023. Learn more about Marion County Child Abuse Prevention Month here.

Our Family Building Blocks staff attended the Child Abuse Prevention Car Parade on April 4, decorating our vehicles and spreading the word about the importance of prevention, as we traveled from the Oregon State Fairgrounds to the Salem Police Department.

OUR OUTCOMES

The children and families that choose to partner with Family Building Blocks are facing real challenges every day. They may be experiencing homelessness, they may be isolated, living in poverty, struggling with addiction, experiencing domestic violence, without employment, or lacking transportation. We know the more stressors faced by a family, the harder it is for that family to stay strong and together.

In direct response, Family Building Blocks provides vital services through our family-centered programs: Therapeutic Classrooms for children, Home Visits for families, education for parents, as well as wrap around supports like mental health services, respite care, clothing closets, and food pantries.

Supporting Family Building Blocks directly impacts positive outcomes for children and their families – increased graduation rates, improved life-long health outcomes, lower incarceration rates, and reduced teen parenthood. For every $1 invested into high-quality early childhood programs like Relief Nurseries, there is a remarkable $8 return on investment. That’s why we like to say, “If you have a dollar to spend, spend on prevention.”

What we do works. Year after year, 99% of the children we serve are able to continue living safely with their parents and families – no foster care, no abuse, and no neglect. It doesn’t get much better than that!

DORIS'S NEW PLACE - BUILDING IN PROGRESS

Last November, Family Building Blocks celebrated breaking ground in Stayton on a long-awaited, much anticipated new home for Doris’s Place Relief Nursery for children and families in east Marion county. Doris's Place has leased five locations over the time we have been partnering with families in east Marion county, and we are looking forward to a new space that will allow us to serve even more children and families! As you can see, construction is officially underway, and we are hopeful the space will transform the community for years to come. The doors are scheduled to open September 2025!

Family Building Blocks is deeply grateful for the support of our Canyon community and beyond joining with us to "Keep Children Safe and Families Together."

LES SCHWAB DIAPER DRIVE 2025 HAPPENING NOW

Throughout the month of April, Mid-Willamette Valley Les Schwab Tire Centers are hosting the 16th annual April Diaper Drive benefiting children and families partnering with Family Building Blocks.

Les Schwab and FBB invite businesses, schools and individuals to join in collecting diapers for families in our community! Babies are born every day and the need for diapers is constant – with your support, we can help meet the need for families to have access to diapers. Les Schwab, local businesses, schools and FBB are partnering to meet this challenge with the goal of collecting over 100,000 diapers in 2025!

🧷 Why diapers? Babies require 8-10 diaper changes a day, and many families struggle to afford enough diapers to keep their little ones clean, safe and dry.

💙 Why April? April is Child Abuse Prevention month. By ensuring families have access to essentials like diapers, we can help create a safer, more connected community.

🛞 Where can I drop diapers? Any Les Schwab Tire Center location in Marion or Polk county, or click here to find all the local businesses and community organizations as drop sites.
