On May 5, Pitkin County issued a press release stating they will take the first step to reopen on May 9. Aligning more with the state of Colorado, the key take-aways of the “Roadmap to Reopening” are:
Pitkin County will have three stages of COVID-19 response beginning on May 9. Each phase is expected to last 4 weeks. If trending is better, then this could be shorter or, if worse, then it could be longer.
- One-on-one real estate showings are permitted beginning May 9.
- Lodging staff will be permitted on site May 9 to prepare for reopening in Phase Two.
- Lodging includes, but not limited to, hotels, lodges, short-term, 30-day or less rentals.
- Second homeowners or “non-resident homeowners” must quarantine for 14 days during Phase One. Note that this is subject to a particular condo or residence club approval.
- Visitors will be permitted as soon as Phase Two is reached, estimated to be June 6.
- Retail stores may open May 9 providing compliance with Business Safety Plan Checklist.
- Restaurants and bars will continue to be open only for pickup and takeout during Phase One.

To better prepare local businesses for eventual opening, Pitkin County will host two “Business Virtual Open Houses” today from 2 to 4 p.m. Mountain Time and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. For more information, go to the
Pitkin County Public Health website and for a Zoom link to join the meetings.
The health board will discuss eliminating a current public health order that requires second homeowners or “non-resident homeowners” to quarantine for 14 days if they come to Aspen or Pitkin County.
We will keep you updated as we progress through Phase One. Hopefully, June 6 will start Aspen’s summer season and become a notable date in Aspen history.
