Bring a Guest Sunday tomorrow

Invite a friend, neighbor or relative to church with you

Bringing a guest to church is a welcoming and memorable experience when you plan ahead to make them feel comfortable. Our Episcopal service follows a beautiful, structured liturgical tradition that is deeply welcoming but it can feel a bit overwhelming for a newcomer.

Some practical tips and ideas for bringing a guest:

Make a Low-Pressure Invitation: Keep it simple and friendly, such as, "Hey, would you like to come to church with me this Sunday?" without making them feel cornered. Use your elevator speech.

Offer some warm Hospitality: Maybe pair your invitation with a caring gesture, like offering to pick them up, grabbing coffee or a light breakfast beforehand.

Communicate the Details: Let them know what to expect, what to wear (casual attire is best), and what the service will be like.

Sit Together and Guide the Way: Sit by them during the service, help them follow along with the bulletin and introduce them to a few friendly faces at Resurrection without overwhelming them.

The Necessity Pantry thanks you!

Your gift helps others in need

This year through October, Resurrection members have contributed over $2,100 in cash as well as countless in-kind gifts and many, many volunteer hours.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness. But above all else, thank you for being the light of Christ for many in need in our local community.

The Necessity Pantry is a cooperative ministry supported by the Church of the Resurrection in Blue Springs, St. Anne’s in Lee’s Summit, Trinity and St. Michael’s in Independence, and St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Independence.

From Father Jonathan +

We all are called to ministry

Today we held a training session for our acolytes and eucharistic ministers at the church. It was wonderful, and I am thankful for all of our people who participated. I shared with them that one reason we have acolytes and eucharistic ministers at the altar is so the people in the pews can see themselves in them. As the laity serve in their ministry at the altar, hopefully it reminds us that we all have a ministry, and the possibilities are endless.

We believe in the priesthood of all believers. You are a kind of priest, and you have a ministry. All believers are called to ministry. As long as it is done to the glory of God, almost anything can be a ministry. It doesn’t have to be constrained by simple labels. I’ve heard of egg ministries and surf ministries. I know of a group in Arkansas that leads a hunting ministry. Some of the most powerful ministers I have ever known are people who try to minister to the nursing homes they live in. Try to figure our your ministry, you have one.

If this doesn’t resonate with you, do some soul searching. You have a ministry you are called to, reflect on it. I’m happy to meet and explore this with you. God is calling you to something to his glory. Your priesthood awaits.

Stewardship Campaign nearing end

Please return your Pledge by next Sunday, November 1

Asked to name the greatest commandment, Jesus refuses to give just one.

Love God with everything you have, he says—and love your neighbor as yourself. Everything else hangs on these.

That may be the best place possible to end a month of stewardship preaching. Budgets matter. Pledges matter. Buildings, programs, and ministries matter. But they are never the final measure of Christian generosity. Love is.

We give because we love God. We sustain ministry because we love our neighbors. We care for the world because love does not treat God’s gifts as disposable.

Generosity is love taking material form.

Please return your pledge card by placing it in the offering plate on Sunday. You can also pledge on-line (click here).
