Yelapa Redux 2022: Saturday, March 12

Grace, Mo, and Wanda in Puerto Vallarta.

What was I thinking? I was quite the taskmaster today. It was up-and-at-'em at 6:30 am and on the bus at 7:30. My ridiculously ambitious itinerary wasn’t meant for people looking for relaxation. Lesson learned. Tomorrow will be a beach day.

Anyway, we took Mo and Grace to Yelapa. The long bus ride to Boca de Tomatlan was fine in the morning. The return got tediously long in the evening when everyone was bushed. The boat ride to-and-from Boca and Yelapa was still awesome. We got to see a whale again. This time I got a photo of its tail. The boat going to Yelapa had a 300 hp engine. The return boat had twin 200s. All were Yamaha engines and made wave jumping a thrill.

(Note: I miss-dated yesterday’s post. It should have been Friday, March 11.)

Waiting in Boca de Tamatlan for the water taxi to Yelapa.

Boca’s little harbor was congested.

The river entrance to the hidden harbor was extra shallow today. Boats we're dragging.

The water taxi ride to Yelapa.

This dock is one of three stops along the way to drop off and pick up passengers and cargo. There are no roads to these isolated resorts and villages.

We got to see another whale.

Approaching Yelapa.

Getting off at Yelapa’s beach.

Breakfast at Fanny’s

Several paragliders were playing in the up drafts along the cliffs overlooking Yelapa. They ultimately landed on the beach.

The beginning of the walkway to downtown Yelapa on the opposite side of the bay.

Someone cut an outlet to the ocean for the river. It was blocked the last time we were there.

Mo is as animal whisperer.

The trip back to Boca.

The best spot on the boat.

We watched this crew load the big tank onto a boat for delivery.

My original plan called for a quick run-through of Yelapa, and then hightail it to Mismaloya. There we would hire a boat to take us to Los Arcos to snorkel the offshore reef. Unfortunately, we got hung up in Yelapa. Last time we caught the return water-taxi from the town dock. This time we had to walk all the way back to the beach dock - go figure.

We made up for the missed snorkeling opportunity the best way we knew - grande margaritas at MargaritaGrille. Along with scrumptious chicken fajitas and handmade fresh guacamole, we left satiated and mellow.

Margaritas grande. One mango and three strawberry/mango.

All mine!
