Taxpayer-Funded Illegal Immigrants, Cities Sue Polis, Pothole Filling Season Kicks Off, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook and Twitter for up-to-the-minute news.

  • How much taxpayer money is being used to support illegal immigrants in Colorado Springs? How is this taxpayer money being distributed, and by what organizations? Is Colorado Springs really a sanctuary city, despite what we are told? We looked into these questions so you don’t have to. Read our latest original article to discover what we learned.

  • We at Springs Taxpayers United dig into issues like this on behalf of taxpayers. If you would like to see more of this original reporting from us, please donate a few dollars, if you can, to keep our mission going.

  • An illegal alien, who is accused of killing a 14-year-old in Lakewood, Colorado, was arrested in Colorado Springs. Remember that your government intentionally trafficked violent illegal immigrants into your state.

  • Another vagrant is accused of killing someone this week. By his own statements to police, the man simply woke up in the vehicle he slept in, smoked marijuana, and decided to kill someone. He ran over a 74-year-old man who was out jogging. Can we call the vagrant problem out of control yet?

  • Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade testified in the federal trial of the hoax racist "hate crime" that occurred prior to his election. One of the suspects involved in this event appears to state that Mobolade knew of the plot. The mayor says he was not involved, and continues to profess that he knew nothing before the hoax.

  • Mayor Mobolade also delivered his May 2025 press briefing this week. He promoted red light cameras and hiring more police officers in the city.

  • It’s that time of year again. Colorado Springs is scheduling 2C pothole tax paving for the summer. This tax has been collected for 10 years now, but you’d hardly know that driving around town.

  • Denver is having budget problems. To address this, they only gave some highly-paid government officials raises instead of all of them. This is how the government saves money.

  • Local communities are being blackmailed by the state to implement Governor Jared Polis’ dream of having us all live in Chinese Communist 15-minute cities. These communities are being forced by the Polis administration to build housing near transit centers. Some cities are suing. In Colorado, people are more or less constantly suing our own government to leave us alone.

  • Going nuclear: For the first time in generations, a city in the United States is planning to build a nuclear power plant to generate electricity. How many years will this be delayed by radical environmentalist lawsuits? Will we see nuclear power generation in Colorado someday?

  • The Town of Monument is adjusting to anticipated decreases in sales tax revenue. To adjust for this, they are curtailing government growth. Shocking, isn’t it? We had to read the story three times before we would believe it, because it’s like seeing a Tyrannosaurus rex running down the street. Can Monument town officials take over the state for a few years?

  • The ability for Colorado Springs marijuana shops to sell recreational marijuana, as well as high taxes on recreational marijuana sales, has impacted marijuana dispensaries in Manitou. Walk-in sales at Manitou dispensaries have decreased by 40%. Manitou City Council may resort to lowering the sales tax on marijuana to boost sales, suggesting that the Laffer Curve is indeed true.

  • Colorado Springs cycling advocates held an event this week to honor riders who were killed in accidents with vehicles.

  • Colorado Springs Utilities needs to expand wastewater treatment infrastructure to accommodate the explosion in residential development in Colorado Springs. This $400 million wastewater treatment expansion project will cost ratepayers $3 more per month.

  • The developers promoting voter approval of the Karman Line Flagpole Annexation project recently sent out a mailer accusing Colorado Springs Utilities of charging ratepayers for the $400 million wastewater expansion project, and not requiring Norwood to pay, as is customary in the city. Is this claim true?

  • Colorado Springs has fallen from 5th to 406th in the U.S. News and World Report Best Places to Live rankings. Significant increases in property crime and violent crime are the major causes for this drop. All the pro-crime legislation from the Capitol is negatively impacting the quality of life for citizens around the state.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!

Don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Since most of the City and County board and commission meetings are not televised or recorded, we are trying to remedy that. We now have a camera and tripod for volunteers to check out for future meetings.

If you have a tip about a story in the Pikes Peak region that you aren’t seeing reported, let us know. We will see what we can find out.
