WHY IT MATTERS

🍁 Your Sweater Might Be Plastic.

Acrylic, polyester and nylon are all made from oil. Every time they’re washed, they shed tiny plastic threads called microfibers, and many are too small to be caught at water treatment plants. Cotton and wool shed a little too, but their fibers break down naturally.

WOOL 101

🐑 Nature’s Performance Fabric.

Wool keeps you warm even when it’s damp, and it naturally resists odor, so you can wash it less. When it finally wears out, it breaks down instead of hanging around for centuries.

🧦 Socks, The Sneaky One 🍂

Even “wool” socks are usually 20 to 40% nylon. These two aren’t.

Dachstein 100% wool socks

Dachstein Wool Calf Socks

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

🌊 Skip The Stuff, With Surfrider Florida Keys

Plastic forks, straws, napkins and sauce packets you never asked for end up in the water. The Surfrider Foundation’s Florida Keys chapter is asking restaurants and shops to hand them out only on request, and asking the rest of us to pledge to skip them.

Businesses save on supplies, and less trash reaches the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Own a business, or just eat out? Both can sign up.
