UnitedHealthcare Negotiations Update: Tomorrow's Town Hall for our Voluntary CIN Providers

To keep you apprised of new information about our ongoing negotiation efforts with UnitedHealthcare, we invite you to join us for a town hall tomorrow evening to discuss the specific impact for voluntary physicians who are part of the CIN. Please bring any questions you may have.

Town Hall Details

Date: January 18th

Time: 6-7 pm

Link to join: https://mssm.zoom.us/j/83868112632

Passcode: 173222

We appreciate your engagement and support as we work to secure a new, fair contract.

We Want to Hear from You! Annual Experience Survey

Our annual provider and office manager experience surveys are now live. Please complete by Friday, February 9th so we can more effectively meet your needs and continue to offer meaningful services to our CIN. This should take only a few minutes. We appreciate your feedback!

Arriving Next Week: View Your Patient Opportunity Reports

Voluntary PCPs and pediatricians in our network will receive customized patient opportunity reports in their One Drive accounts the week of January 22. These reports include patient-level information on care gaps and can be used to identify cohorts of patients that need visits to re-engage in care, close quality care gaps, and/or manage and document chronic conditions. Please be sure to use these reports for effective patient outreach. We will continue to notify you of upcoming reports and when they’re on their way.

Next MSHP Town Hall Gathering: January 24th

Join us for a Town Hall Gathering on Wednesday, January 24 from 6:00 – 7:15pm! At this meeting we will discuss:

  • 2024 Clinical Integration Program updates and requirements, including performance metrics and funds flow
  • Payer updates
  • Preventing blindness from glaucoma with Mount Sinai CIN ophthalmologist, Dr. Daniel Laroche

Attendance at this meeting will also meet a portion of the Program Engagement requirement within the 2024 CI program.

Join us February 13th for our next Mind Matters meeting!

Sidney Hankerson, MD, MBA will be speaking at our next Mind Matters meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Dr. Hankerson is the Vice Chair for Community Engagement in the Department of Psychiatry and the Director of Mental Health Equity Research at the Institute for Health Equity Research.

Behavioral Health Care Access

Ensure your patients are aware that their insurance provider must cover behavioral health benefits with no session caps. This quick guide explains how to find treatment and services and includes information about understanding insurance coverage and benefits.

Supplemental Quality Data Submission Due January 19th

Some CIN members in our network recently received this communication requesting supplemental quality data for their Aetna Commercial, Aetna Medicare Advantage, and/or Empire Medicare Advantage (MA) attributed patients with open care gaps.

If you received this communication, please submit the data by Friday, January 19, 2024. If you already submitted the data, thank you and please disregard this message.

Chronic Condition Management

Clinical Takeaways: Resistant Hypertension

Patients with seated office blood pressure >140/90 mm Hg who have been treated with three antihypertensive medications at optimal (or maximally tolerated) doses, including a diuretic, should be diagnosed with resistant hypertension after the following are ruled out:

  • Pseudo-resistance (poor BP measurement technique, white coat effect, nonadherence, suboptimal choices in antihypertensive therapy)
  • Substance/drug-induced hypertension
  • Secondary hypertension

Treating Resistant Hypertension

Optimize lifestyle and all medications

  • If eGFR <30 or volume overload, initiate loop diuretics

Add a low dose of spironolactone as the 4th line agent if

  • Serum potassium is <4.5 mmol/L

and

  • eGFR is >45 ml/min

If spironolactone is contraindicated or not tolerated, add

  • Eplerenone, amiloride, doxazosin, clonidine, beta-blockers, or any available antihypertensive class not already in use

Adjust the medication schedule

  • Giving one of the antihypertensive medications in the evening may improve control

New CDQI Course Now Available on CILC

We are excited to announce an updated course, Introduction to Clinical Documentation Quality Improvement, is now available to watch on MSHP’s Clinical Integration Learning Center (CILC).

This course is presented by Ava Johnson, CDEO, CRC, CPC-I and Tanya Kapka, MD, MPH, from the Clinical Documentation and Quality Improvement Team at MSHP. They discuss the importance of coding documentation, commonly missed codes, and how to code for specific chronic conditions.
