Friends of the Gateway Region, we have seen lots of progress being made on different projects in July. The construction on the Civica Rx site in Petersburg is coming along great, and all four walls are now up on the 650,000 square-foot site in Southpoint Business Park in Prince George County.
VGR Chief Operating Officer Ajay Sujanani and I attended a Community Engagement Reception on July 9, following the Induction Ceremony of Brigadier General Mark Simerly at Fort Lee. We would like to extend a special thanks to Major General Rodney Fogg for his service to Fort Lee and the community, and we look forward to welcoming General Simerly as he assumes command.
Congratulations to Virginia Diner in the Town of Wakefield for being approved for a Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development grant. This grant will allow the Virginia Diner to expand, investing over $4.5 million to nearly double production of its iconic gourmet peanuts. We are delighted that Virginia Diner has made the decision to continue to grow and prosper in the Gateway Region.
Lastly, VGR is putting forth a number of grant applications that, should we be successful, will allows us to fulfill our vision of uniting the region for economic prosperity.
As always, I'm interested in hearing from you. Should you have any questions, please contact me at: (804) 732-8971 or kboswell@gatewayregion.com.

|
|
Just days after it was announced that cable business channel CNBC had voted the Commonwealth of Virginia as the top state for business for a second year in a row, Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Brian Ball cited Petersburg’s advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing cluster as being an integral part of the state receiving its second, consecutive "Top State for Business" recognition.
"We're very proud of all of our economic development projects," Secretary Ball said, adding that industries such as pharma extend benefits that reach far beyond the city limits of Petersburg into the rest of Virginia.
Virginia is the only state to receive this award back-to-back.

The important work of Virginia’s Gateway Region would not be possible without the support of our dedicated investors.

They may not manufacture tires, mattresses, medications or animal feeds, but Evonik is part of all of those products — and many more. While they often contribute only small amounts of material, those contributions are precisely what make the difference. That's because Evonik products make tires fuel-efficient, mattresses more elastic, medications more effective and animal feeds healthier. That’s what specialty chemicals are all about. And when it comes to specialty chemicals, Evonik is among the best in the world.
