Members of the Karma & Cents team have lived all over the world. The exposure to diverse cultures, family systems and business communities brings a unique perspective in how we advise and support families. This diversity of thought becomes more relevant in today's world as we navigate new world orders and seismic societal shifts.
Over this past year we have covered topics related to the poly-crisis (climate change, geo-political shifts, AI, etc.), diving into how the issues at hand define what impact means to individuals and families. While the problems may seem localized and complex, the solutions can be found around the globe. This issue dives into philanthropy from a global perspective with reflections on two intersecting conferences, the Philanthropic Foundations Canada conference held in Winnipeg and the Family Business Network summit in Cologne, Germany. We also want to highlight a regional perspective; in an article published by The Philanthropist wherein several philanthropy advisors and fundraising experts, weigh in on what makes philanthropy in The West different from other parts of Canada.
As we near the end of the year, not only is it a time of reflection, it is also a time to look forward. This issue includes our annual Charity List (organizations our clients support), the 2026 Donor Guide for year-end donations, and if capital gains issues are in your future, your charitable donations can help offset those taxes!
Nuvyn Peters puts out a a call to action for charities and donors alike to start thinking about what the charitable landscape looks like this coming year; and Gena provides highlights from various family philanthropy gatherings in Canada and Europe.
Oh, and I hope you will join Daryl and Gena at the Families Summit of Minds in Banff this November!
Happy reading!
