September is Attendance Awareness Month
|
Good attendance is not only coming to school each day, it's also arriving on time and staying until dismissal. Make the most of your child's education by ensuring that they are present for class.
When children and teens regularly attend school in person, they’re more likely to develop their whole selves—personally, socially, academically, and emotionally. They’re routinely able to connect with friends and adults, collaborate and problem-solve, make decisions, think critically, be creative, and engage in hands-on learning. In other words, showing up matters!
Be present. Be engaged. Be ready to learn.

Plan a Visit to Your Local Library
Our Tangipahoa Library branches are a wonderful resource for us all to use. Plan a day trip with your family this fall. Spend time exploring the books, participating in their planned activities, and browsing their collection of magazines or movies. Before you leave, get a library card so that you can check out a few books for storytime at home.

New Law Affecting our 3rd Grade Students
Beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year, a new Louisiana law will take effect requiring third-grade students who are significantly underperforming in reading to repeat the grade. This legislation aims to address literacy challenges by ensuring students have foundational reading skills before advancing to fourth grade.

Reading to Learn:
TrueFlix. Worldbook. Discovery Education
Ask your children if they have noticed these sites in their ClassLink accounts, and if they have taken the time to use them. A great early-finisher activity would be to explore a topic of interest. These programs offer online books, articles, images, videos, interactive quizzes and more! The more we encourage our children to read for understanding, the more proficient and knowledgable they will become.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING
|
As part of our Character Strong curriculum, we take the time to discuss important character traits and what they mean. This month, our elementary students are having meaningful classroom discussions about how showing respect looks in different situations and environments. We can respect our classroom by taking care of our materials, we can respect our teachers by listening and following directions, we can respect our bus driver by being quiet riders who stay seated, we can respect our friends by being good listeners and having a compassionate heart.
What are some other ways we can all show respect throughout the day?
| | |
|
Listening is an important skill that is harder than it sounds. We fail to listen not because we don’t hear but rather because we don’t focus or pay attention to what we are hearing. Listening is a sign of Respect. It shows that you value what the speaker has to say.
Celebration Prompts:
-
How have you shown respect through strong listening lately?
- What family member(s) do you want to celebrate for their Respect?

Take a Moment to Breathe
Test anxiety is a common challenge for many students, but it doesn't have to hold you back! Practicing positive self-talk, deep breathing, and preparation can help ease those nerves and boost your confidence.
Remember, it’s okay to feel anxious—acknowledge those feelings, but don’t let them define you. You've got this!
Visit us online for a collection of Coping and Well-Being Resources.

Think Before You Post
Taking a moment to reflect before hitting “post” can lead to more thoughtful, responsible, and respectful online interactions.
T: Is it true? If you are unsure if the information you are about to share is true, do not post it.
H: Is it helpful? If the information or message you are sharing is not helpful to others, or if it could generate feedback that is not helpful to you, do not post it.
I: Is it inspiring? It is best not to overly use social media as a way to complain or vent your frustrations. Social media can be a helpful place to get answers and encouragment, but it is not wise to use social platforms to express anger and leave hurtful comments.
N: Is it necessary? Is the news or information you are sharing something that is important for others to know? Is it your news to share? If you are sharing someone else's personal information, or rumors you may have heard, do not share it.
K: Is it kind? You should always read over your messages before posting. Your post could be interpretted as having a harsh tone if you are not careful with your wording. Double check over your choice of words, emojis, or use of sarcasim. Your message may not be clear to others and could come across as being hurtful or ugly.
Remember to T.H.I.N.K. before you post. Make sure the digital footrprint you leave behind is one that you would want others to follow. Your future career application, job, or friendships may count on it!

Acceptable Use Policy
Part of participating in school lessons is reading, understanding, and signing our district AUP. An Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is like a set of rules that helps everyone understand how to use technology in a responsible and safe way.
We encourage our families to read the AUP together, making sure that everyone understands the expectations which are set in place.
By following the AUP, you can make sure you’re using technology in ways that help you learn and get the most out of your schoolwork.
Read Our AUP
| |
|
Protect Your Login
An important guideline of the AUP to follow is to protect your login information. The username and password assigned to our students allows them to access our devices, as well as important programs such as gmail, Oncourse, our Student Progress Center, and academic programs. If this login information is shared or stolen, others can access your child's important information. This could lead to issues down the road.
| |
|
|
Stay Alert
Phishing emails (pronounced "fishing") look like they come from someone you might know or a trusted place, like your school or a popular website. These emails often ask you to click on a link or provide personal information, like your password or address. They might pretend they need this info for something important, but really, they’re trying to steal it from you.
| |
|
If you get an email that seems suspicious, don’t click on any links or share any information. Instead, ask for help to make sure you’re not falling for a trick.
|
Smart Devices on Campus
Now that we have settled into our school routines, please remind your children that devices need to be powered off and tucked away in student bookbags. It's the law, not just a school rule. Smart devices cannot be carried in pockets, or held in their hands during the instructional school day. Consequences will be enforced for violations to the law, so please continue to be mindful when bringing smart devices on campus.
